Oh man, this has been a long week.

Guess what?! My home province's football team won the GREY CUP last weekend! I am one proud momma!

But now it is Friday and I am tired.

I am keeping up with journalling what goes into my mouth and otherwise just trying to keep up with life. Slowly working away at the house, preparing for hosting a bake exchange in December; cleaned the kitchen counters and cupboards, re-organized things in the pantry, took boxes of books out of the living room. My next goal is to wash the floors and deep clean the bathroom.

This weekend i'm heading to the city to check out a high school's version of the musical Grease. Can't wait! Should be fantastic, i've heard great things about this group of kids. And i've been having salads for lunch ALL WEEK so that I can indulge before the show and go out for dinner. I am really looking forward to that meal!

Last week, with the small changes I made I lost 3.5 lbs. This week, i'm hoping the downward trend will continue but even if it doesn't, I think i'm back on track and my head is finally in the right place again.

Almost Friday; this has been a long week. Now that winter has set in (we've received our first 'staying here' snowfall and holy moly things got cold real quick, it's minus 25 celsius with the windchill this morning!) the mornings are dark when I leave for work and it's so depressing :(

So let's catch up on my walking. I moved over to the treadmill and was doing really good. On Thursday I wanted to try a minute of running to finish up my hour walk, and I pushed through to get it done. I also blew out my knee; felt her pop about 30 seconds into my run. I haven't been on the treadmill since; hopefully this weekend i'll get back on it because my knee is feeling much better now. Other than a few rounds of shoveling snow, and regular walking through the course of each day, I haven't been able to devote myself to an exercise routine. Don't quite know how to tackle this issue right now.

Instead of focusing on exercise, i've been trying to get a handle on my eating. I make salads almost every day for lunch, oatmeal for breakfast (except on weekends when I have something more filling, like eggs and fruit) and just try to keep it healthy at dinnertime with less starches and carbs, and more veggies and protein. I've cut back drastically on junk food and desserts. I developed a slight diet coke addiction while on holidays, and have also cut back on that.

In the coming weeks my plan is to continue to focus on my eating until i'm at a place where healthy choices come naturally to me once again. I've been there before so I know I can do it again :) I've been journalling every day and keeping tabs on everything that i'm eating so that I can pinpoint at what time of day i'm taking in junk calories and why.

I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. I hope the recovery is speedy so you can get back to exercise. It sounds like your focus on healthy eating is going well - keep it up!

Ohemgee TGIF!

Since I last posted on DDs, I made two attempts to walk outside using my 'newfound' knowledge of proper gait and posture while walking. I'm sorry to report that it didn't help :(  I still developed shin splints within about five to ten minutes of walking. I did try taping my shins, but didn't get much relief that way either.

And then towards the end of last week I got pretty sick and didn't walk again last week.

So on Sunday of this week, I moved my butt to the treadmill. I can go a lot longer on the treadmill without shin pain.

Sunday - 45 mins (1 minute running)

Tuesday - 60 mins walking

Thursday - 60 mins (1 minute running)

If I notice pain starting in my shins, I turned down the mph until it passes. There's a lot of slow walking in those minutes (for example, Tuesday in those 60 minutes I walked 2.26 miles), but at least i'm walking!

In other news, I really need to start eating better. I jumped on the scale last night and have been discouraged ever since. And only myself to blame! So I need to start making salads again for lunches at work, and minimizing my junk food intake. That will be my first hurdle.

Happy Monday!

Doing great; working on my walking this week. I had a great talk with Dad recently, and i'm now paying special attention to my gait when I walk faster/for exercise and monitoring whether that might be at the root of my shin splint issue.

B: oatmeal, coffee

L: turkey sandwich, raw veggies

S: sugar cookie x 2

D: sandwich, soup

I throw a lot of veggies into my sandwiches; may not be getting enough veggies still, but it must be pretty close. Fruit usually goes into my oatmeal, but i've been doing the pb instead lately and haven't been buying fruit.

TOM came because I still haven't gotten my quarterly shot and it's probably been close to five months now. A little gut-ache this morning, but so far (knock on wood) it's very manageable.

Looks like a slow week and week-end coming up so just need to make it through the workweek! I haven't had a full five day week in about a month now, so it might be rough ;)

I had shin splints for quite a while. I started taking smaller steps and put generic insoles in my shoes and it really helped alot. Have a great week.

Hey girly!! Just catching up on everyone's diaries..I am so happy that you had a nice vacay, next time you should suggest to your family that Disney World is alot cooler, that way you can sneak off and hang out with me for a few days since I'm only an hour south of Orlando!

Not sure if i mentioned before that Rock Tape or something similar to it may help out with the shin splint.. Anyhoo hope the rest of your work week is stressfree my friend <3

LOL, I love those short work weeks. That's my plan...to use ALL my vacation days to shorten up what would be a 5-day week. I get 10 days vacation & 5 sick days a year..my plan is to break all of this up...no big vacations this year...to make work overall more manageable & so I can fit in exercise, as well.

So now you're still suffering at times from leg issues? As you know, I have the same problem as you or it's very similar. I'm in my 8th month of recovery now. I am finding that now I have big ups & downs...once in a while I am getting a very painful day.

As for veggies, I recommend finding ways to fit them in...and get them in by having them in your house....I almost recommend buying more types/quantities than you would even finish in a week. When I do this, I eat more. This week, I bought blackberries as a change of pace...and they do last so much longer than raspberries. :)

Work conference Monday and Tuesday and ate great! Aside from the strawberry mousse and vanilla cheesecake on Tuesday for lunch

A few days of work and then a Ladies' Night event on Friday!

Goal is to walk the track today; i've got my pedometer on and hoping to reach a good number of steps today :)

Oatmeal, coffee, leftover pizza for lunch, cucumbers, hallowe'en sugar cookies for mid-afternoon snack, soup and sandwich for dinner.

Hey Hey!

Back from my vacation to Disneyland - it was awesome and crazy and it took me a few days to recover :)

Even though we walked every day on average 5 miles, my diet was not very good. I have some work to do to get things back on track, but i'm working on it! And things are just as busy as they were when I left; work conference coming up next week, and some other social events happening. The rest of October should fly by!

There's a hockey game tonight, so I stopped by the grocery store and picked up groceries for a quick turkey sandwich with some pop chips. Might grab a hot chocolate at the game.

I'm walking most days and trying to keep my knees and shins healthy by not overdoing it right away. Hopefully I will be able to work my way up to some tougher workouts, or find some other activity that will help me level up my exercise. But for now, just trying to 'move' as much as my lazy alter-ego will let me :)

Monday - Ended up meeting a friend for an extended lunch so I took the afternoon off work and did some work in regards to the trip i'm heading on next week. Took a nap as well - I just can't catch up on sleep!

Tuesday - What a crazy day at work! Had to work some extra hours as well as attend an evening meeting. Managed a 15 minute walk at lunchtime. After work, went to a friend's for coffee because she was having a bad day. Tell me about it! Got home after 9 p.m., completely zoned out and burned the chicken I was baking.

I finally made a to-do list for myself for the rest of this week. So. Many. Things. To. Get. Done.

Good thing i'm in love with to-do lists.

Wednesday - Another crazy day of meetings. Heading outside for a walk soon, need to clear my head. Received a bamboo plant from a co-worker today for some work I did yesterday. It's beautiful. Unfortunately, I am a Plant Killer. So we'll see how that goes.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Thursday - Dinner out with the girls; pizza again as it was the special - spinach, chicken, and I asked for feta cheese but they gave me pineapple. Huh. Didn't think you could misunderstand 'feta' for 'pineapple'.

Friday - All a blur. I was completely exhausted and I remember wanting to watch a movie and just relax at home. Didn't happen; in fact I fell asleep on the couch in the act of finding a movie to rent.

Saturday - Drove four hours to visit family; went to a theatre presentation of Les Miserables. Was wonderful! Stayed up late chatting with my very talkative aunt. Pretty Auntie is what she prefers to be called.

Sunday - Up at 8 a.m. for 9 holes of golf at a gorgeous golf course not even five minutes away from their place. Wow, they've got it made! Ran through Timmy's afterwards for coffees and treats for the house, then watched World War Z before driving the four hours back home.

I don't know if that makes you feel tired, but it feels to me like it should be Friday today. And that's not good, seeing as i've got three meetings this week to get through, plus getting everything else ready for my holidays starting next week.

Monday - Started my day with some iced coffee, but now I have a headache and my eyes just want to close. There is a plan to meet up with a friend after work; haven't seen her in forever! Yes, another late night is probable. No meal plans this week - will try to finish up whatever's in the fridge.

We've come to the point in the year where things get a little bananas for me. Fall meetings start up again and work just seems to start piling up. My evenings and weekends are packed and i'm lucky if I can find time for a load of laundry. Thank goodness for holiday time in October! 

I feel like lately I haven't been able to comment on everyone's entries like I want to, or really even think about what i'm writing out. I just hastily throw something down, click post, and move my attention onward.

But i'm not that person. One of the reasons I keep coming back to DDs is because of the awesome support and advice I get from the rest of you each and every time I post. And I like to think I can lift your spirits as much as you lift mine.

So while my posts may be irregular at best, you should all know that i'm still gonna hang out here when I can, read your posts, and throw in my two cents whenever I can ;o)

And I don't want to hear any whining about it. You're stuck with me and that's all there is to it.

I ate pizza for dinner yesterday. And I liked it. And then I started reading a book I got at the book sale for 25 cents. And the book, it got a little frisky. That's when I realized it was one of those books. And now if someone asks me, i'll have to tell them that - indeed - I have in fact read erotica. And no, it wasn't Shades of Gray.

Saturday - Golf tournament; won 2nd place YET AGAIN whoop whoop! I also took the prize for ladies' longest drive. Get me on the LPGA tour, people.

Sunday - CFL game; even though we lost in a nailbiter finish, it was great to be THERE and soak up the atmosphere.

Monday - Training day at work; drank lots of coffee and panicked when I returned to my office at the end of the day and saw all the e-mails i'd gotten. I was invited to a friend's for coffee, but begged off in lieu of hitting the sack early.

Tuesday - Training in the morning; rush to catch up on my work in the afternoon. There was a hockey game tonight, but I skipped it in favour of reading a very interesting book regarding a fellow who was an RCMP officer-turned-conman in the 1900's. Slurped up all 180 pages in one evening.


B - whole wheat sandwich thins, smooth pb, coffee

S - argh! the donuts got me!

L - spring mix, tofu, cucumber, bell pepper, poppyseed dressing
