Weekend was so-so.

I still haven't gotten my computer fixed. The trouble with small towns is that the local computer store takes Fridays and Saturdays off. I tried to fix it myself but I am not so technically-inclined and gave up right away.

I had some chocolate over the weekend and some ice cream. I don't know which one it's due to, but i've got some stomach issues today. Pretty sure it's from the ice cream.

There wasn't a whole lot going on this weekend; I stayed at home and got some housework done and made a big batch of soup for work lunches. Also shovelled the walkways and driveway and front sidewalk when the power went out on Sunday morning. Glad I got some exercise in!

This week I will be doing some of the at-home DVD workouts I have. Hopefully I will be able to get three workouts in before I leave to stay with Dad during his first treatment cycle (Wednesday evening through to Sunday). Tonight some friends are coming over for leg-waxing and i'll have to make something up for us for dinner as well as get a workout in before they arrive. I have about an hour to do all this!

Last night SIL had a baby boy! They are so far away that I won't get to see the little gaffer until summertime probably, but I am excited for them to be adding a new nephew for me to spoil! Love it!

LOL. your friends are coming over for leg waxing!! Um, ok. That actually sounds really interesting. I don't think I have ever had a leg waxing party before but rock on. I hope you get your work out in and your legs are smooooooth.

Congratulations on the new nephew. Leg waxing party - what products do you use? I tried it at home once and it HURT badly - the wax didn't melt thin enough. I have my eyebrows done at the salon, but I' love to have my legs done and not have to shave everyday. Have fun.

Got my hair cut and coloured yesterday; not sure if I like the colour we put in but I really like the cut. I'll try to get a picture on here soon...

Then I went to Mom's to pick some things up and she gave me baked goods. Yay. Chocolate loaf, banana loaf and two bite-sized butter tarts. Oh, and a very large piece of peanut butter cheesecake. How could I resist? I was getting angry as she put more and more into a container for me to take home; I honestly tried to tell her to stop but you know how mothers are. And grandmothers are like that, too. And aunts. Mostly all women.

So when I got home, of course, I ate dessert first. The peanut butter cheesecake was demolished while my soup was cooking on the stove. Man, that was good. Then I had soup and the rest of the loaf of french bread which was getting so crispy that I simply crumbled it all into the bowl and it turned into more of a stew than a soup.

That filled me up for awhile. I tried to fix my computer, but no go. So I read for a bit. Then I had a snack of tuna and crackers.

After my bath I still wasn't tired enough for bed, so as I read some more I snacked on the tarts and the chocolate loaf. I am a big idiot. I should have just thrown it all into the freezer.

I feel so bloated and full today. And sickly. Nauseus. Like I just want to go home and get back under the covers and sleep the day away.

But screw that. This day is for being present. This day is to remind me about what happens when I binge on enough dessert to satisfy four people. Ok ok, five people.

I have a few things to get done this afternoon and after work, and then I will clean up a bit at home, change into some soft and comfy clothes and do some reading. I will put the banana loaf INTO THE FREEZER. And then try to forget all about it.

Looks like my home computer crashed on me sometime during the night. Not even concerned about it; how's that for peace of mind?! I can still use the office computer, and my cell phone, so... whateva.

Eats for yesterday: coffee, chicken noodle dish with cream of broccoli soup, chili with french bread, peanut butter and crackers, more french bread, spinach smoothie.

I binged slightly last night, out of boredom I think. I still came under one serving of crackers, but overloaded a bit on the french bread. Probably two slices too many. Still, lost half a pound as of this morning so I imagine this is still much better than where I was at just a week ago.

I was tempted to buy myself a mocha this morning before work, but I talked myself out of it. In fact, WIERD, I actually ended up looking forward to having plain old coffee.

Today's plan: coffee, oatmeal with pb, apple and banana (unless there is creamed soup at the cafeteria ), cream of chicken and corn soup with french bread and garlic, spinach smoothie.

Groceries Required: spinach.

I may mix up a can of tuna and make a cracker topping and have that as a snack instead of the smoothie. I might need a smoothie break

I also need to bring out the chicken in the freezer and cook that up. I have a nice lemon pepper rub for it that I want to try out. Maybe i'll do that sometime on the weekend.

Other than that, I did manage to finish my brother's gift and start wrapping a few other gifts. Right now, I only have my SIL's mother and my Grandmother left to buy for. That should be no problem, what with going into the city so often to see Dad.

Today I am getting a cut and colour after work (finally), then picking up something from Mom's, then groceries, then i'll have to check out my home computer and make arrangements to take it in. I will miss watching tv on it until it is fixed!

Well it looks like I had reason to feel better yesterday.

I phoned Dad last evening, and he said he woke up Tuesday morning feeling much better. He is finally getting the proper nutrition in and even sounded like he had some color in his cheeks.

I know it's silly to say, but every time i'm feeling unwell or upset about something, he always knows it. A day or two later, he'll phone me up and ask me what's wrong. So it's only natural that I might be feeling 'off' because he's been so sick lately. And alternately, feeling good yesterday when he's starting to feel better.

I woke up the same weight today (which is not 167; I am still trying to get back there  ), but I still feel pretty confident about the foods i'm taking in.

Yesterday: coffee, chicken noodle dish, chili with french bread and garlic, chocolate milk, spinach smoothie.

I changed my mind to chili because a can of it was sitting out on the counter calling out my name. I added a can of baked beans and a can of green beans to it so that i'd have leftovers for dinner tonight. It was pretty spicy and I spent a good chunk of the evening fighting heartburn! Oh well, it tasted good.

Plan: coffee, chicken noodle dish, oatmeal with banana, apple and peanut butter, leftover chili with french bread, snack of spinach smoothie.

I was even able to keep the kitchen clean, and clean the bathroom last night! Exactly what I wanted to do! You have no idea how accomplished I feel even with something as small as this - it is truly amazing what a little extra energy can do for a person. Tonight I plan to get the rest of my brother's christmas gift, and maybe even start wrapping some. I already gave my Dad his gift - I bought him a new set of winter mitts, scarf and toque, and tons of DVDs of movies and tv shows I think he'll like. It will help him pass the time when he starts treatment.

My walk last night didn't happen because I was too busy falling asleep on the couch. But oh my! I got myself a pretty decent amount of actual sleep last night and I feel tons better today, about everything. It feels like the cloud is lifting (knock on wood). In fact, just a few days ago I was tempted to take down all my Christmas decorations because... just because. Today, I feel much better about Christmas and much less like the Grinch who stole it ;)

My eating yesterday was superb as well and maybe that had something to do with being able to sleep better: coffee, oatmeal with apple, peanut butter and milk, cream of chicken and corn soup with a few slices of french bread (slathered with garlic), snack of cheese and crackers, snack of spinach smoothie.

It may still seem like a lot, but at least i'm heading in the direction of nutrition instead of junk.

Today i'm going to concentrate on keeping the kitchen clean, cleaning the bathroom and either doing some reading or watching an episode of something-or-other before bed.

Plan: coffee, chicken noodle dish, more soup and french bread (with garlic) for dinner, and snack of spinach smoothie. Stick to this legcramps! I want to sleep well again tonight.

Glad to hear you are feeling better abouit Christmas... I too go through phases, ever since my father passed away, that I just don't want the holidays to happen, so I can totally relate... I think a little heavy on the healthy food is definitely the way to go in the direction of nutrition instead of junk... Its a definite improvement! have a great day!!

Oh my Lord! I am swelling up like an air balloon! I need to stop this emotional eating! Now!

I've got to get a handle on what i'm eating - I went through too many periods on the weekend of eating until I could barely move. Today my plan is lots of water, soups, and some oatmeal for extra protein. I'm going to get some milk, cans of soup and bananas after work today and concentrate on getting the right nutrition in.

I went to visit Dad this weekend and got quite the scare. He has lost much more weight than I expected, and looks tepid, pale, and sickly. I wish I could give him some of my extra fat ;) goodness knows, he's the one that needs it, not me!

I am slightly overloaded at work, but I am happy that I was able to get some housework done yesterday. At least my house doesn't look like a total disaster zone anymore.

Thanks for all your comments lately! I know I haven't been commenting on your entries much lately, and i'm not totally concentrated on my own health right now - but i'm glad I can still come here and vent and not turn everyone away! It just means so much!

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. As all of us get older, we see our parents going through things we used to watch other people's parents go through. Now it is our parents going through it. Very, very difficult indeed. It is understandable that you are down and commendable that you are working through it by continuing on with the tasks of daily life and rituals. There is nothing wrong with that at all. I know this time of year is bad for S.A.D. and the doctor told me the other day to increase my vitamin D. I now take 2500 i.u.'s a day. Praying for you.

New plan, seeing as I could barely walk 12 minutes yesterday. I did a set of stairs, and I tell 'ya - the walk back up was so much EASIER on my calves! Unbelievable!

Eats: coffee, cream of chicken soup, turkey sandwich, brocccoli salad (it was delicious), bean burrito.

Today: mocha, broccoli salad, turkey sandwich, dinner TBD.

I couldn't stop the tears yesterday after work. I barely made it into the house before I just started sobbing. I am so emotional these days, and everything is really bothering me. People in loving relationships, families together for the holidays, good health. I'm having a hard time coping with the realities i'm being faced with. I know some people have had to face even more tragic circumstances, and i'm trying to keep that in mind. But right now i'm still very angry and inconsolable.

To bring the work day to a close, i've spent the last two hours putting up Christmas decorations. Yes, that's just the thing to bring my mood around. <sarcasm>

I took part of the morning off so that I could get some extra sleep in; it was a wonderful reprieve while it lasted and I was glad I had a mind to do it that way instead of taking the afternoon off to do nothing since I can't go in to see Dad today because of the freezing rain coming down.

My God what a depressing entry! Feel free to let your eyes glaze over as you read ;)

So sorry about your Dad. My Dad also has cancer. It's very hard seeing your parents go through serious illness. Husband and I always said after Thanksgiving dinners in the past how lucky we felt having all our parents still with us and in relatively good health. This year we talked about how hard it is to see how fragile they actually are. Dad is doing "ok" relatively speaking, but he's been through so much. The treatment your dad is getting sounds very aggressive. I hope for the best for him. If you ever need to talk - we are here don't worry so much about posting these hard feelings. It helps. (((((Hugs))))) to you.

I only got 17 minutes of walking in, was painful again. I think I will finish off my last 20 minute walk today and then take the rest of the week off and start again Monday walking 30 minutes three times a week for two weeks. See if that helps. Then start the running program if I can.

I had a long day yesterday, thinking about Dad in the hospital and not being able to be there. I had so much work to do and then an evening meeting that lasted much longer than usual. I nearly fell into bed as soon as I got home, but I managed to stay awake long enough to have a slice of lemon cake ;)

Eats yesterday: coffee, oatmeal, turkey sandwich, beef wrap, cream of chicken soup, brown rice, lemon slice.

Today's plan: coffee, lunch meeting (soup and sandwiches), apple, turkey sandwich and... ? a side dish of some sort. Broccoli salad sounds appetizing.

I have my runners at work again today, so I think I will head straight to the rink after work and get my walking done. If I could get some decent sleep I might not be feeling so overwhelmed about everything. It seems just when I fall asleep, two hours later I have to be up for work. All this tossing and turning for hours in bed is leaving me a little frustrated!

Everything is frustrating me, everything! But I will be thankful that I got through my 20 minute walk yesterday even though there was pain. Strange pain. Strange, pulling pain. I may re-evaluate soon if this doesn't let up. Before I actually start running, I might want to do the walking over again, this time doing it three days a week instead of every day. Maybe every day was too ambitious of me.

I took a nap right after eating dinner, then Dad called to talk to me about his treatment schedule. Holy Busy Batman! My Lord, this is scary. Chemo once a week, radiation every day. I will have to pour Ensure down his throat every waking minute. I am so scared for him.

Eats yesterday: coffee, yogurt and granola, chicken and brown rice with red pepper, kitkat, turkey sandwich, lemon slice.

Eats today (plan): coffee, oatmeal, turkey sandwich with brown rice and red pepper, dinner meeting (soup and sandwiches).

I will try to get my 20 minute walk in at work before the meeting - brought my runners with me so it shouldn't be a problem as long as I remember to do it!

I did my 20 minute walk last night, but it wasn't much fun. My left shin was feeling it pretty heavily and by the time I left I was limping slightly, favoring my right leg in order to get down the stairs. But I got it done and i'm still alive. Cool.

I went to bed early last night because i've been feeling tired since the weekend. Apparently I slept through my alarm this morning and woke up when I should have already been at work! I hate it when that happens; now I will be anxious for the rest of the day, thinking i'm forgetting to do things etc. I'm sure the alarm went off, I must have shut it off without realizing and gone back to sleep. There are all these things running through my brain lately; I imagine my brain and my body were both telling me that they needed an extra hour of sleep ;)

Today's eats will be: coffee, yogurt and granola, chicken and brown rice with red pepper, lemon slice. A friend gave me the lemon slice and since you can't freeze it, guess i'll just have to measure it out and have a little each day until it's gone. Poor me. I'm sure i'll also fit in an afternoon snack, but I didn't bring anything so i'm unsure as to what that will be.

Another 20 minute walk on the schedule for today!

BTW I'm taking Magnesona against the cramps and well, I don't know yet but yesterday was it's first day and I haven't experienced any cramps in the pool - so far so good, but it's too early to announce a verdict.

I know I've mentioned this before, but for me any kind of leg/joint pain means I need new shoes. I remember you and I had the same Mizuno model awhile back. They really turned out to be a dud for me. They fit my gait (fairly neutral/supinator), but they just didn't stand up in the end. I did end up getting one more pair because they were about 20 dollars off the original price. Each pair lasted me only about 2-3 months for walking on asphalt nearly daily.

Ignore me if I'm repeating myself on the shoes:-) I hope you get your shin issue solved--no fun when you expect exercise to make you feel good!

I didn't get this thing diagnosed, but I had started up jogging (after a little break--a month or something) a few years ago and I think I did too much too quickly. My shins weren't hurting at all, but one night I got into the car for a quick trip (I have a standard shift, thus a clutch) and on that leg, after I got out of the car, it felt like my shin was going to explode--but just in one small spot. I started icing it right after. I definitely quit jogging and maybe even walking (for exercise anyway). I think it was pretty inflamed for even walking any distance for about a week or two afterward. At any rate, I have luckily not felt that since.

I just wanted to relate my experience.

As for me and caffeine, as the years have passed the pros of quitting it (on a regular basis, if that's possible for me even--so far not so good) outweigh the cons.
