CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Things I am grateful for today: green fields, laughter, chocolate, being in a good mood

Hello Ladies, Well, one birthday down, today is the angel's second birthday. She is only having cupcakes in the shape of a 2. A lot less work than yesterday. I am off to take the princess to pre-school and to do a bit of shopping for the ice cream treasure chest - may do a pirate routine or maybe not!!!!!  Definitely would do a pirate routine if Johnny Depp was at the supermarket, me hearties!!

Thank you for all the encouragement from yesterday -what a lovely group of women you are. I feel very fortunate to have come across this site.

I will be back after I have been shopping to do my diary..........................OK, I'm back, one of the things I like about The Food Doctor's program is the 80/20 rule: if you are good 80% of the time you get to have a couple of treats a week. Well after resisting those profiteroles yesterday I decided to have a treat, now the important words are "I decided" - I am in control, I was planning on a big tub of ice cream (not a treat, just a binge) but I hopped on the scale this morning and had lost a pound. I am still having my treat (a small bag of Cadbury chocolate buttons) but I am feeling really good that I kept my self undercontrol. I love this program, I think it is my favourite way of eating, it really suits me, more protein, less carbs. As you can read I am in a good mood - which is a rarity for me. I might be funny, sarcastic, witty, wise but not often in a good mood, must be my head chemicals firing on all cylinders. LOL

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

steak and kidney pie, peas, chocolate (have to eat the treat with the meal - well not with it, that would be yuckky, but for dessert)

bodywise bar, almonds(lunch was so filling I didn't eat this)

prawns, coleslaw

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Thank you for your positive comments.. I kept the color similar just richer... a deep chocolate brown!! I am feeling very positive and am very excited about that!! Have a wonderful evening!!

so happy to hear you are in a good mood... Enjoy your day with the princess and have a good one:)

Well done on the 1lb down! Prawns and coleslaw,YUM :) In regards to the cherries,I have had them before, but I usually have berries as I grow them, but cherries I have to buy and I only get them in season, and its such a short season too. Enjoy your day.

Umpqua on 08/18/2010:
Johnny Depp AND ice cream? I'm swooning over here ;) Thanks as always for your support. I like the idea of having a treat once in a while as part of the plan. I need to work on that!

sweetpea1977 on 08/18/2010:
Congrats on the pound lost. Sounds like your new food plan (which sounds great!!) is working wonderfully!

Glad my advice regarding the extra blanket worked. :)

Happy birthday to the little kiddos!! Enjoy the celebrations!

Moogy thanks so much for your encouragement and all the wise things said to me yesterday. So happy to see you lost a pound, believe me I know how hard it is! Your grandkids are so lucky to have a special grama like you!

By all means, Moogy, give me your recipe for oats in a slow cooker. I do have one and seldom useit. I couldn't think of a better use for it than for oats/porridge. Yum! Thanks!

Here's to a good day and your winter weather winding down!

Morning Girls, So I "sucked it up princess" and weighed in, I wasn't surprised by the increase, but it is down about one and a half  pounds from the high of late last week, never the less it is disappointing not to see a result for all my hard work. I went back to bed and had a little cry.

It is my second grandson's birthday today, he's 10 and I have a request to make profiteroles for the big boys afternoon tea. I tried to steer him toward something less tempting for me but, no, definitely wanted profiteroles. Then his mother got in on the act and ordered some to be sent downstairs as well, you know, sometimes I think they keep me up here just to provide goodies for them.LOL  He (2nd grandson) is having a sleep over on Friday night and I am making an ice cream treasure chest for his actual birthday cake - not quite sure how I will do this but no doubt I will figure it out. I least I won't be tempted by that!!

It's another beautiful day here, although a little chilly at the moment, it's 9 am. This is the food for the day.....da dah!!

porridge, yogurt, mixed seeds

rye cruskit, egg salad, alfalfa sprouts

apple and blackberry with almond yogurt crumble, custard

honey sesame fish, broccolini

(I got a bit busy with all the baking etc. and had to rejiggle the menu, honey sesame chicken turned into honey sesame fish)

Have a lovely day girls.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 58.2 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/16/2010:
remember my comment about chocolate and oatmeal? well, i just bought some light chocolate milk mix...a long time ago, i used to make an eggwhite/oatmeal/with chocolate powder/or chocolate milk mix soufflee for breakfast! gonna have that tomorrow....i may leave the egg white out though, and just have chocolate oatmeal made using milk, not water. :-) the mix is low sugar, maybe even sugar free...

you must be some dessert chef! wow, an ice cream treasure chest!? you should take a picture and upload it here for us to see!

i love seeing all your healthy veggies. I'm not really a sprout girl myself, i've tried, but that's great you enjoy them. i think i overdosed on sprouts one time, and that's why i don't enjoy them now! same thing with wheatgrass juice. I once ordered a half cup of it, 4 ounces, WAYYYY too much! It's usually sold just in one or two ounce servings and i hate the taste of it now, also!

but your broccolini sounds good :-) and oven baked chips, sounds healthy and craving fullfilling! nice.

do you make sweet potato chips? i'm thinking you could probably like ALL kinds of chips, veggie chips...like squash chips...hmmm...

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/16/2010:
I sure hope I can reach all of my goals. If I stick to it, and realize that I shape my own future and goals, it will work. If i let daily stress consume me, the goals will not work. I am ready for this change...and I REALLY want to see the results!

This time around, I hope to be the most toned...as i've been lifting weights steadily for a year, i wonder what my arms could look like with fat loss...and later on, more tweaks to my diet. :-)

thanks for the encouragment.

Maria7 on 08/16/2010:
Hope you're having a nice day! :-)

hollybelle on 08/16/2010:
I have been in that predicament before-someone requesting a tempting dessert. It is hard, but sometimes I have been able too make it - just enough and tell myself I made NO extras and I HAVE to give them all to the recipent, too bad none for me, box them up and get rid of them ASAP! If I psych myself up and work REAL fast it can work! I'll leave that suggestion in your hands......LOL!

just42day on 08/17/2010:
You are a great grandma! Do let us know how the ice cream treasure chest turns out. Sounds adorable. 1.5 down from last week is good. With your determination, I'm sure you'll see another decrease soon. Enjoy your beautiful weather!

Hello lovely girls, it is 7.20am Monday here in Sydney, a flock of about 200 sulphur crested cockatoo's just flew over (they are the white ones with the yellow crest they can lift up), they are so noisy - they live around here most of the year and drive us up the wall some night's when they are settling down for the night. I have been hearing Kookaburra's as well the past couple of days in trees over the road and behind us, fighting and squabbling with each other - just sounds like they are laughing - so funny to hear - bring a smile to my face every-time I hear them.

There has been a definite change in the weather, it is not as cold as it has been in the mornings and the temps are getting up to around 20c /70f in the middle of the afternoon. I think winter is going, although I expect it will make one last bid before it disappears for another year. I have three large picture windows in my place, two in the living room and one in the bedroom, I have had to put the outside blind down on my living room one and have been having the sliding door open on the other it has been so warm the past couple of days. It is quite windy today - a sure sign that spring is arriving.

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

rye cruskits, egg salad, cress

parmesan chicken, salad leaves, lemon vinaigrette, tomatoes

apple and blackberry with almond yogurt crumble

prunes and cashews (not hungry enough for the fish and corn)

Have a great day girls.

Progress as of today: 5.8 lbs lost so far, only 54.2 lbs to go!

I have the angel with me at the moment, spreading buttons all over the places and generally being funny and cute, so that helps.

rye cruskits, egg salad, cress

veal T bone, roast potato, roast pumpkin, green beans, gravy

multigrain corn thins, peanut butter

scrambled eggs, mushrooms

I hope you all have a relaxing Sunday.

I don't remember if I told you or not, but my grandmother had a button box! It was a big tin one and it belonged to her mother, too. I have it now. I loved going through it when I was little and so did my daughter. You are the only other person I have heard talk about a button box. How neat. I suppose, though that when mothers in the old days wanted a moment of peace and quiet out came alot of button boxes! Have fun today and eat healthy!

8.00am Hello girls, it's Saturday morning , the sun is out. I weighed myself this morning and there was movement, one pound UP, I couldn't believe it. I had been getting ready for bed last night and thought that my legs felt a little slimmer at the top. I just feel like sitting on top of a big pile of comfort food, I don't have any comfort food in the house, just as well really. I dont know what I have to do (silently screams), this weight is not coming off. I just feel like it is all pointless, I have been trying so hard. I know that I just have to keep going, I know that eventually the scale has to go down - but then I think, well why did it go up today? I cannot express my dissapointment, frustration and plus I so wanted to lose weight this week so I didn't have to move my weight thingy up again. I feel like I have let you girls down. I can't be bothered thinking about food at the moment. I will come back later. I am sick of thinking, planning, cooking, counting, writing - my life always turns into a tunnel vision of food when I am dieting. I will go away and sort myself out .

hot chocolate, bodywise bar                             2

10am OK, I had something to eat, lowered my goal weight to a realistic number that I think I should be able to reach. I am going to change to the new eating program (tomorrow) - it really isn't that different to what I do now. I really like this diet, no counting - just portion sizes. Things you need to know to keep track of me is that I need to eat protein with complex carbs for every snack and meal. No carbs for dinner or in the evening. I need to eat three meals and two snacks or two meals and three snacks depending on how hungry I am. I will be eating little and often. I am just trying to to something to get my body started. I am still feeling blah about the whole thing but trying to do something, anything except give up.

bacon and egg sandwich                 7

buttermilk chocolate cake, three peices, I made my own comfort food     10.5   I threw the rest in the bin, wasteful but I had to get rid of it.

                                    total    19.5

5pm I managed to get through the day under point budget, but as you can see, not good choices, but hey, it could have been disastarous if I had purchased goodies. Sorry this has been so long, I have been logging on to try and keep myself sane, I wish I was in the same time zone as you girls. I am taking my meds early tonight, I want this day to end as quickly as possible. I am still hopeful I can lose weight, I think it is going to take longer than I had planned.

Progress as of today: 5.8 lbs lost so far, only 54.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/13/2010:
Hoping you are having a nice Saturday. :-)

Umpqua on 08/14/2010:
I hate those fluxes. It will come back down...I'm excited to see how your new eating plan works out!

cleaneating on 08/14/2010:
Try and not get disheartened sometimes the realism of something takes longer to actually sink into out heads, rather than first intial thought. You can and will get there to your goal weight. Today looks good point wise, and good on you for throwing the binge food away. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you :)

Moody3 on 08/14/2010:
Awww Moogs~trust me, I know EXACTLY how you feel~Remember my metldown a couple weeks ago, after I had been so good, and had actually gained a pound? I understand your disappointment, frustration and anger..all too well. You did great tho, by not throwing in the towel and staying within your points budget...good for you!

I am wondering tho~are you getting any exercise in? And how about your water intake? How's that going? They make a difference..especially the exercising...not only physically but mentally~

Hang in there hon, you CAN do this...You've got a new eating plan in mind that sounds very good~Just don't give up, ever!

Stayng under points is wonderful - you could have just checked the day but you didn't.

moogy - Friday Aug 13, 2010
(Weight Watchers Points)
Weight: 229.2

Hello Girls,  I had a great night's sleep and I am ready for the day. I am going to the doctor's, just for my regular crazy person meds and to do the shopping for the fortnight. I hopped on the scales this morning and to my dissapointment nothing has happened, absolutely nothing. I am just going to pretend I haven't seen that and press ahead. I get frustrated with myself that I can be really good for a week (and you all know how hard it is to get through each day being as good as gold!!) and have one day off (admittedly, when I go off, I really go off track) however, why is it that I can put on huge amounts of weight (4 pounds) when it was just one day. It makes no sense to me whatever, 1 week = 1 pound, 1 day = 4 pounds, and then it takes two weeks to take off the extra - it makes no scientific sense and no common sense. I only have myself to blame, I know I can't eat simple carbs, pastry, biscuits, white bread, they are like fat magnets to me. OK, I have stopped raving now, but I am still frustrated.

I shall continue my good as gold week. Fill my cupboards and fridge up with healthy food, so that I have nothing to eat but good stuff in the house. I know I will be safe that way because I never can be bothered to go to the shops and get goodies, let alone drive to fast food places, I can't remember the last time I had a burger (stoggy slop), or KFC (greasy but I like it!!) must be about 2 years ago. I am glad I like to make my own food, imagine the size I would be if I was into fast food!!!!  LOL They could roll me to my grave!!!

hot chocolate, porridge                     5

toasted ham and tomato sandwich             4

hot choclate, bodywise bar               2

seasoned chicken thigh, cauliflower, carrots, peas, gravy            6

                                      total                       17

Update: I took the angel out with me shopping etc. first time we had been out together, I used to take the princess everywhere with me but now she is at pre-school I have been short one little girl. She was just what her name says, an angel, we were out for over two hours and she acted just like you would like a nearly two year old to act. She was quiet, polite, it is just unbelievable that she is so young and never misbehaves when she is in public, unlike at home - the children are allowed to be naughty sometimes at home - we have a saying at our house that children have to be naughty somewhere and we prefer it to be in private. I know I am just a proud nanna - but she is so sweet and funny and if she were lower in calories I think I might eat her!!!!LOL I am exhausted now, it was a bit of a workout, it is carrying the groceries upstairs that does me in, weight lifting and stair climbing combined!!

Progress as of today: 5.8 lbs lost so far, only 89.2 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 08/12/2010:
Hope you have a good day--getting a good night's sleep is always a good start!

I'm sure if you stick to your guns the scale will cooperate--hang in there! Your food always sounds good to me--I'll take a thigh over a chicken breast anytime--much more flavorful:-)

V on 08/12/2010:
Good Morning My love! I hope all went well at the doctor...Do you think your meds might be the culprit of your standstill with your weight loss???? I will catch up with you later!

just42day on 08/12/2010:
Boy, do I ever hear you on the frustration! It just ain't fair that weight can be added so easily and quickly and just the opposite in trying to lose it. I'm sure you'll see changes in the right direction so. Don't give up hope! You are working at it so it will happen!

Bikiniwax85 on 08/12/2010:
I undersatnd how it feels I really do.. Its not easy to stay on track if we do not see the result. For me I am taking it like a lifestyle change. I talk it over with my BF he said losing weight that I have been carrying around almost whole of my life is not easy. But, as long as I know I will lose it and feeling healthy is a good feeling! Hope your day doing wonderful so far! Btw, Ramond is coming to my house to see what I have in my food cabinet my BF said he think that Ramond is interested in him! Hahaha

Bikiniwax85 on 08/12/2010:

Thank you so mch Moogie!

You are so lucky to have the Air Force to pay for the cats! Our State Department doesn't, :( So, the time we pay for the cattery bill (they will stay there for 2 weeks), handling, vet bills, etc each one of them will be worth a couple of thousand dollars. But I just can't leave them behind.

I loved reading your update about your angel. So sweet - you made me smile!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/13/2010:
i like the sound of "as good as gold." you are smart to have healthy choices around. when you do, you will always be able to choose them! whenever i don't go shopping and don't have much on the fruit and veggie end, that's the time i will binge more often! so you are prepared.

Good evening girls, I managed to stay on track yesterday, mainly because I had nothing in the house to eat, lots of food, but no snacks, except for one lonely peice of my chocolate cake in the freezer. I ate that frozen, who knew, it was yummy. Plus I had plenty of points left for it - so that is two days down five to go in my good as gold week.

I am feeling a little flat today, don't really know why, but with me it is probably brain chemicals messing around with me. Plus I didn't get my nanna nap yesterday and I am now in sleep deficit. I will attempt to sneek one in today, but the princess in home and I can almost guarantee that as soon as I nod off she will be up those stairs to come and play. It is like a psychic connection!!! LOL

I have my food  planned for the day, it's a little heavy on the carbs but I am clearing out the freezer to prepare for a change in food plan to begin on Monday - now you are all excited aren't you. Just dying to know what it is  - well, you will just have to wait!! (don't get too excited, it isn't that different - but all will be revealed on Monday) Have a good night and a great Thursday tomorrow ladies.

hot chocolate, porridge              5

chicken, snow peas, onion, noodles stir fry        7.5

hot chocolate, bodywise bar     2

spaghetti bolognaise             5.5

                     total                       20

UPDATE: Just as expected the princess came up to play. I got through another day unscathed, it is only 7.30pm but I have taken my meds and am heading for bed early to catch up on my sleep. Have a good day girls.

Hello Lovely Ladies, It rained all day yesterday and into the night but the sun in shining now although it is still pretty cold. It was sleep over night with the princess last night and if she kicked the covers off me once she did it a dozen times. It was freezing. I kept hauling them back up and just get back to sleep and she would kick them off again. Needless to say I am one tired nanna this morning. Took her to pre-school, did a bit of shopping and now I am going to do a bit of house work and washing and guess what. A nanna nap. Absolutely.  For Sure.

I was noticing yesterday actually that we have about three or four girls who are really close to goal. It is so exciting to see people succeeding, it gives me hope that I can lose this weight that I have been carrying around for decades. I know why I keep myself fat, I know how to lose weight maybe all I need is a group of women holding me accountable, on the same journey and cheering me on. I hope so!!

Good morning, Moogy. I always look at my clock and tell myself that you are 14 hours ahead with Sydney time in Australia...so I'm looking at 8:49 pm here and I think you must be at 10:49 am tomorrow....wowwwwww!

Hoping you are having a very blessed day. Your menu looks good. Have a nice nap. :-)

sweetpea1977 on 08/10/2010:
lol, love your story about sharing the bed with the princess. Princesses always get what they want. Next time, keep a few extra blankets nearby so you can stay warm while she hogs your comfy bedding.:)

Man, you're having that wondeful lamb shank dinner again. I cant wait to make it for my hubby once Im feeling normal. He looooves lamb!! I'll have to substitute some of the veggies though...he likes starchy ones more than the green ones.

Thank you so much for posting the recipe. I'll definitely have to make it for a special occasion...perhaps for my birthday in November when my appetite will be in full force. :)

Bikiniwax85 on 08/10/2010:

loveray on 08/11/2010:

Umpqua on 08/11/2010:
That dinner sounds amazing, love love lamb. Hope you have a great evening there!

geevee on 08/11/2010:
Lovely veggies!I must buy some parsnips. I haven't had them for ages.

Of course you can achieve your goal. It only takes time. At my slow rate of loss, 2lbs. a month, it's difficult short term, but when I realize that during the past 14 months I've lost 30 lbs.,then I reassess and am happy.

hollybelle on 08/11/2010:
Checking in with you!

Maria7 on 08/11/2010:

Hello Wonderful Women, I was awake at 5 am (old lady bathroom break) and was just lying there and it started raining, I thought of V and when it was raining and she was deciding whether or not to have a nap. Well, I didn't stay awake long it was wonderful to go to sleep and hear the rain. It is now 8 am and it is still raining. Wonderful stuff. I can't remember having this much rain in winter for ages.

I haven't got much planned for today, the princess and I are making the Buttermilk Chocolate cake for the big boys afternoon tea this morning and apart from that I may just sit and listen to the rain, I recorded a couple of movies overnight. Now, I know that some of you are feeling jealous but us nanna's have a responsibility to sit and be available for hugging when neccessary!!!LOL  By the way I kept to the plan yesterday, well I did change the plan in the afternoon but kept within my points limits. So I got the recovery week off to a good start.

I hope you all have a great day and that life treats you well today.

hot chocolate, porridge             5

baked beans on toast   7.5

buttermilk chocolate cake          3.5

veal T bone, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, gravy , hot english mustard   5

                    total                21

I have updated my menu, I couldn't resist the chocolate cake once we had made it. I have had one slice and promise hand on heart that I will not eat another one, it would put me over my points (21 max) and I promised that I would be as good as gold this week. See now I have committed myself I feel much more in control. You are helping me without even trying. Thank you.

Progress as of today: 5.8 lbs lost so far, only 89.2 lbs to go!

Healthy&HappyMe on 08/09/2010:
WOW! Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job according to the Nanna job description! :) Rainy days are nice. We have had much gloom... which just makes for no fun here in CA! :) Have a wonderful time listening to the rain.

I updated my diary after reading the comment you left me. I definitely dont have plans starting the training now. I am ambitious, but not crazy! hahaha This year, I will have to focus on walks, hiking (not too steep though), and my elliptical to maintain my current level of fitness. :)

Weight: 229.2

Hello Lovely Woman, I am glad the weekend is over. Thank you for your kindness, support and love. It is wonderful to come here and be able to share experiences, good and bad with you women. Having my daughter as a best friend is wonderful but it does mean I don't have anyone to talk to about her stuff. So this is great for me.

I hoped on the scale for my usual unofficial weigh in this morning. I would just like to say that there will be no official weigh in tomorrow, I have had a couple of really bad days, I am bloated (that's a nice picture isn't it?) and feeling full of stuff that I need to shift before I am at a real weight. So I am going to pretend Tuesday isn't going to happen this week  (la la la la fingers in ears) and work really hard this coming week to counteract any weight gain. My aim is to be the same weight as last week or maybe by next Tuesday have lost a little. I am a bit stubborn in not wanting to alter my downward figures on the scale. I do realize it is only head games but it's my game and I want to play!!! LOL

I hope you girls have a lovely rest of the weekend. I am on the starting blocks ready for a good week, fingers crossed!!!!

hot chocolate, porridge                 5

matchstick satay chicken, jasmine rice      9.5

chocolate self saucing pudding                3.5

hot chocolate, bodywise bar                       2

                              total    20

Progress as of today: 5.8 lbs lost so far, only 89.2 lbs to go!

just42day on 08/08/2010:
Same as nita above. Plus, you're not alone playing the head games. I've been doing that for awhile myself. Whatever works! Hope your week starts off great tomorrow!

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
Good morning to you! I hope you and your Daughter have a good day today and she is well and feeling good and that you are doing well, too. We will just trust the good Lord, Who takes care of all of us. I prayed for you and your family again. Hope you all have a blessed day.

2luvself on 08/08/2010:

Jolly Ranchers are these wonderful little clear hard candies, they come in an array of flavors, my fave is sour apple. They are delish :)

V on 08/08/2010:
LOL Moogy!!!! I just read your comment on my page and I thought I was silly :) It is great that your spirits are just the same after your stressful week

KathyBlue on 08/09/2010:
Let's say, this week will be much better! :)

Maria7 on 08/09/2010:
:-)

biscottibody59 on 08/09/2010:
Jolly Ranchers are good for keeping dental professionals in business! They're not the usual hard candy--they stick to the teeth REALLY well--watermelon was my favorite as a kid.

Hope you have a good week!

Maria7 on 08/09/2010:
Good Tuesday morning to you, Moogy! Hope you have a real nice day! :-D

Umpqua on 08/09/2010:
I missed this entry somehow. That chicken and rice meal sounds wonderful, and I think you are doing amazing considering the stress and pressure you are under. Bravo!
