Had a very busy week.  I stuck to my food plan and have enjoyed taking whatever foods I intend to eat--with me each day--to work.  I have had problems, the past couple days, with pain located in the right heel of my foot (plantar faciitis?) This has interfered with the amount of walking I've been able to do each day, after work.  I have researched home treatments on various websites (rest, ice, elevation, etc') and am trying those things. I hope I get some relief, soon.

Anyway, it is suppose to be a beautiful day, here in Ohio.  I want to get out in the 70ish weather today.  Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

Donkey on 03/25/2017:
I have PF, so if that's what you have, look online for some stretches, which really helped me. You might have to get some ultrasound treatment though from a PT. Try to stay away from the cortisone shots if you can. Hopefully it's mild. Time to buy better shoes!

mylilsista on 03/25/2017:
I agree with everything you said, Donkey. I'm going to replace my shoes, today. I went on Youtube this morning and watched some videos on stretches. Hope these (and other measures I mentioned in my post), resolves this issue.

Horn_of_plenty on 03/26/2017:
Yes donkey has good advice and def stay away from those shots.

if you have pain, only stretch a bit and do not further walk on the foot until the pain goes away. do less walking once the pain is gone as you get back into walking.

sometimes doing too much, too soon for your body will only result in pain. Trust me, i know. i had shin splints for TWO YEARS because i refused to let myself rest properly so i kept exaccurbating the situation causing it to keep getting worse before i finally let myself rest & heal.

Good morning peeps! I am hosting a pizza birthday dinner for my grandson, Friday night. I think I might give myself permission to indulge, some. Perhaps drink several bottles of water before eating and send all leftovers home with guests.

Progress as of today: 9.1 lbs lost so far, only 21 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/22/2017:
You can also have veggie sides or like even a veggie platter so you can eat to your hearts desire before / after / during your pizza indulgence. Veggies can be eaten in vast quantities so feel free to pig out on veggies in addition to your pizza slice.

mylilsista on 03/22/2017:
Good idea; I hadn't thought of that. The whole bottom of my refrigerator is home to LOTS of delicious veggies!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/22/2017:
doesn't have to be a "all or nothing" situation...you can have pizza and pig out on veggies. you can be full and satisfied and not even break your healthy progress!

mylilsista on 03/22/2017:
I agree :)

Have been trying more veggies (broccoli, cauliflower & carrot mix and also, steamed asparagus). The veggie mix--with spray butter & spices--we're good. The steamed asparagus (even with seasoning) tasted bland. I think I will try to find recipes using asparagus that might taste better.

Progress as of today: 7.5 lbs lost so far, only 22.6 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/21/2017:
I agree and usually I do not like steamed asparagus. Instead of steamed, try roasting with a little olive oil or spray like you did and add some salt and pepper. you can also bake it...till slightly crispy / drier consistency. it will taste good from the oil/salt/pepper mix!

I do not eat many veggies that aren't seasoned anymore...of if i just microwave cabbage (the shredded, bagged cabbage) i eat it with veggies that have been cooked with sauces or sauteed...

I used to, a long time ago when i was first dieting, only eat veggies steamed but that is now boring and i'm still pretty light (my weight) and can eat basically as many veggies as i want now - even when seasoned and baked nicely and full of flavor.

YOu can cook veggies the same way you cook pastas or meat...def prepared with spices and flavor will be good.

I love how Thai restaurants in particular prepare veggies of which i may buy some tonight...nah, i'll save my cash i think? i have too much food at home..but...

Thai has diff flavor sauces that are way lighter than the Chinese sauces which are heavy and sugary and syrupy...

So thai sauces include light sauces in the following HEALTHY flavors / spices:

Garlic Sauce Basil Sauce Ginger Sauce And i think there's one more...

But when this one restaurant in particular cooks veggies by me, the sauce is full on, but it's thin and watery consistency so no sugar or not much added...and the veggies take amazing in it! Plus, garlic, ginger and basil are VERY healthy for you! :) Next time i order ginger, i'm ordering EXTRA ginger in the dish...they actually put pieces of ginger in it the dish! so healthy. i am going to start eating more ginger bc it's anti inflammatory.

 Good morning Peeps!

BF & I spent much of the weekend just relaxing and being slugs (very much needed)!  Now it's Monday and time to slip back into my responsible adult persona (fun, fun).

Here are a couple recipes that I thought ya'll may enjoy:

Low-Calorie Smoothie

1 container of low-calorie yogurt (any flavor, I use Kroger Carb Master, 70 calories)

1 cup low-calorie milk (example: Cashew milk, 25 calories per cup)

1 cup frozen fruit (I use sliced strawberries, 50 calories

1/8 cup Stevia (or any other artificial sweetener)...optional

Blend and enjoy (this is delicious & only 145 calories!)

1 Sandwich Slim (bread), divided...I use Kroger 90 calorie slims

2 Tbsp. Ragu pizza sauce (15 calories)

8 slices of Hormel turkey pepperoni, diced (33 calories)

1/2 serving of low-moisture mozerella cheese (40 calories)

bake at 425 until done (about 10 minutes)

total calories = 178

I usually double this recipe so I can enjoy 4 pieces of pizza.  I may add diced ham, pineapple tidbits, bacon bits, onions, peppers, etc' (all low calorie...in moderation, of course!

If you all have low-calorie recipes to share, I'd love to try them!

Have a blessed Monday!!

Progress as of today: 6.9 lbs lost so far, only 23.2 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/20/2017:
Pizzas are good in calories and have nice protein and fiber = awesome. thanks for the recipes they do sound satisfying bc of fiber & protein. Nice that fruit and veggies can be added to both recipes (well fruit on 1st recipe and veggies to second recipe).

It's important to fit in time for relaxing...lately i am craving it a LOT. I'll have to fit in MORE relax time in a couple weekends from now when I know that I will have no plans...gonna keep it that way before i stress myself out completely! Maybe even take an extra day off some April when our vaca starts again...as I am craving it.

Good morning Peeps!

I feel really good about the way the work-week ended.  I made a commitment--earlier this week-- to drink at least 5 (16 oz) bottles of water per day.  I have to admit, it has made a significant difference in how I feel (physically).  In addition, it appears to have pushed me off the plateau I have been on since March 9th..  I believe I might had been retaining liquids and drinking water appears to have helped resolved this (I've lost 2.2 lbs since increasing my water intake).

In addition, I've gradually increased my daily activity level and caloric intake.  My fitbit showed I was walking approximately 4 miles a day at work. Now, I strive for a minimum of 5 miles each work day (yesterday, I achieved 6 miles!!!!)

Anyway, the numbers on the scale have finally been inching downward. Even small bits of progress is progress (I'll take it!)

Have a great weekend folks!

Happy Saturday :)

Breakfast: Large bowl of strawberries with artificial sweetener (yum)!

Lunch: 1 cup soup & turkey sandwich on low-calorie wheat bread

Snack: wheat thins

Dinner: Salmon, stir-fried brussel sprouts w/onion, bell peppers, & seasonings.

Snack: Blueberry & banana smoothie & 1 bag of 70 calorie Lite popcorn.

I hate drinking water but know it's good for me.  I did some research and learned if my body doesn't get enough, it will hold liquid in order for my organs to function properly..This can result in my retaining water.  So, my goal lately, has been to remedy this.

I love coffee (it is my drug of choice!)  I learned that  it doesn't cause me to retain liquid but, it is no substitute for consuming actual water. Wednesday I had my coffee but added 3 bottles of water in between. Yesterday, I added FIVE bottles of water.  The scales are finally creeping down.  Maybe the steady intake of coffee and tea wasn't good for me.  Perhaps my body needed actual water.

According to my fitbit, I walked 4 miles Wednesday & over 5 miles Thursday. I would like to walk a minimum of 4 to 5 miles per day.

Have a great day everyone!

Finally Friday!!!

Progress as of today: 4.3 lbs lost so far, only 25.8 lbs to go!

Yes, over a weeek or so you'll notice good side effects from increasing water. At work now, I get up and drink as much as i want from the water cooler.

I take more than basically everyone, but i do not feel bad as i'm in the office more than almost basically everyone...well not everyone...but enough people that sometimes have meetings out. I figure if i'm gonna be in the office, take advantage of the water cooler! ;-)

That's some great walking miles. If you aren't used to that much, i recommend slowly moving up towards that & taking a couple days off so not to get injuries or shin splints. If you are used to those miles, nevermind my tip ;)

Great eating! Great mix of low cal and also nutritionally 100% healthy stuff like the salmon which is high cal but sooooo healthy.

What kinda artificial stuff did you put on your strawberries? if you want something no cal that is very popular right now that is considered healthy, try liquid or powder stevia. it's very sweet - over the strawberries.

mylilsista on 03/17/2017:
Great deal with taking advantage of the water situation at work (I am doing that too at my place of employment). Also, I am use to walking a lot at work. I just didn't have any idea how much I was walking until I began wearing my fitbit. As far as what artificial sweetener I use, I use the powdered Stevie you mentioned (it's my favorite!!). Ok back to work (my break is over). Have a great Friday!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/17/2017:
Oh...so you already are doing the best with the stevia nice!

and water so darn important yes! :)

i drink too much caffeine lol in addition to a lot of water thankfully...i need to cut my caffine...not even in coffee form but actual flavored drops they now sell at pharmacies and grocery stores...because it hits me fast and i like it before workouts. it's not healthy and has artificial sweeteners although i did find one online on amazon that has stevia...but...i like it...so it's good that while at work i drink water.

At home i love flavored seltzers to which i always add stevia too LOL. They taste better than soda :-) love this. i also add Apple Cider Vindegar to the stevia / seltzer mix only sometimes and only in morning to help me poop before work - so sorry it's TMI! :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/17/2017:
Have a WONDERFUL friday...you and me both deserve it ;)

Donkey on 03/17/2017:
I love coffee too! A cup in the morning is MANDATORY -- bad things (really bad things) happen when I don't get a cup of coffee in the morning. For society's sake and the safety of others, now I don't leave the house if I don't have a cup of coffee first.

I'm sorry I did not get the chance to respond to your entry from a couple of days ago when you were discouraged. I was able to read your entry but was not at a computer where i could log in and respond. I'm lucky to get on once a week; twice a week is a good week for me.

I had a similar experience a year or 2 ago: ate all the right things, did all the right things, gained 1.5 pounds. Had a big bowl of ice cream after dinner, lost 3 pounds.

It's like, what the heck? I was so angry at my body that day.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that you're not alone and I'm glad that you stuck it out and are in a better place now.

I feel better today..Yesterday was very frustrating.  I appreciate your support Horn_Of_Plenty!  Instead of drinking coffee all day and unsweetened tea all evening, I added quite a bit of water to my plan yesterday.  I guess I need to keep in mind that each time I've attempted to lose weight, I went through periods where I lost nothing--no matter how hard I tried.  But when I stayed the course, I eventually began losing weight again. This appears to be one of those times.

Today will be a long work day...I have been taking my breakfast & lunch with me each day, so I can make good food choices instead of eating whatever food is on-hand & convenient (which usually isn't healthy).

My live-in boyfriend is also dieting.  So far, he has lost 14 lbs!  I am really happy for him! We've been experimenting with various vegetable dishes (veggies I normally wouldn't touch!)  Last night, we experimented with brussel sprouts..a food that I tasted before and hated.  I guess it is all about how it's prepared because last night  I stir-fried some with onions, garlic, bell peppers, and seasonings.  I actually like them!  Who would of thunk?? (lol)

Have a great day everyone :)

Progress as of today: 2.9 lbs lost so far, only 27.2 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/16/2017:
So glad you are doing better. I also struggle on the same thing (when weight starts going up or i'm having trouble maintaining or when i'm not losing right away!).

Water definitely helps as sometimes all the caffeine and not enough carbs / sugar causes me to binge later. Water is definitely better and helps keep bloating down after you are used to consuming the water.

Yeah, there's no substitute for just staying the course ;)

Good of you to bring your food. I also bring both breakfast & lunch and snacks. There are restaurants and takeout to order from but if i want veggies...it needs to be salads...so by bringing my own food, i can have MUCH more options than salads - I bring tons of cooked veggies, healthy turkey burgers, etc. i work in a sorta low income area so they don't have lots of "fancy" restaurants with health options. Options are not pleantiful, plus it's cheaper to bring exactly what i want to eat and waste nothing...yeah, bringing lunch is always the best bet. but if you forget, it's good to know you have options and you can order multiple things and take the rest home if you need to...like a sandwich and eat half and also order some cooked veggies on the side to supplement the sandwich and fill you up.

It's good your bf is also dieting...good to work together on this. It helps to have another healthy eater in the house bc you'll rub off healthfully on each other.

have you tried roasted brussel sprouts? takes longer, but YUM! coat them lightly with oil, salt and pepper and then roast in oven...can be done for most veggies and it's healthy along with the TASTIEST option. everything will taste as good as fries, but not fried - and very healthy.

season veggies right and they taste better than pasta.

mylilsista on 03/17/2017:
Thanks for the encouragement! I agree, it's best to take my own food to work. Luckily, there are many restaurants near my work location (Subway, etc'). So, if I forget my food at home, I have healthy alternatives. No, I haven't tried roasted brussel sprouts. I was viewing vegetable recipes last night and saw the recipe for that. There were lots of comments at the bottom of the page (people said they were delicious)! I'll have to try it!

Weight: 197.4

Feeling very discouraged this morning.  My first week of dieting, I dropped 4 lbs.  Afterward,  I went stagnant!  I examined my food logs and discovered I wasn't getting enough calories (some days, less than 1000).  So, I restructured my meal plan to ensure I am eating between 1500-1600 calories, per day (even added a little more fat to my diet, as one of you suggested).

My fitbit shows I am walking between 4-5 miles per day at work (so I am getting exercise).

Yet the scales show that I have GAINED 1.4 lbs!!!

I feel stuck...Not sure what is happening.  It's been 13 days and no loss, whatsoever, this past week (not even a fraction of a pound). Gaining 1.4 lbs back, has me baffled.

The only thing I can think of is I drink lots of coffee and little-to-no actual water each day. Maybe I need more water?? I am not giving up...just feeling frustrated.

Progress as of today: 2.7 lbs lost so far, only 27.4 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/15/2017:
Weightloss doesn't happen over night & you are experiencing what ALL DIETERS experience. It is very important now that you STICK WITH IT. IF you stop, you'll regain all or gain even more weight. If you contain to eat mindfully and moderately, the weight will come off. We always lose the most weight in the first week...you can expect all the weight you put on to come off overnight.

Patience is what it takes.

I support you. Yes, drinking water during the day will help.

Weightloss can be frustrating, this is why many people give up.

mylilsista on 03/16/2017:
I know all dieters DO experience this. You're right, it doesn't happen overnight and this journey is very frustrating (at times). I added more water and stuck with my plan.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/15/2017:
I used to give up also...and that's when i was younger & weighted more. Now i have learned how to plan to make it easier (dieting) by eating lower cal options and usually having things at home - enough - so i can make good choices more often...it took me YEARS of learning...because i don't give up anymore.

mylilsista on 03/16/2017:
I remember giving up and how that made me feel..I also remember staying the course & losing weight, and how THAT made me feel. I usually drop a lot of weight the first 2 weeks of dieting. But this time, that didn't happen & I was disappointed. But I'm over it. Moving forward :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/15/2017:
I'm back...sorta bored at work needing a break...

just to remind you one last time, losing weight means you have to CHANGE your lifestyle - all the changes don't need to happen at once & they shouldn't as too much of a change will backfire as is proven many times...just keep going in your journey. Trust yourself and trust that changes will happen. It takes more than 2 weeks.

to lose my last 10lbs, it took me a full year. And I've kept the weight off pretty much just fluctuating 1-2lbs over this year but maintenance. Weight is affected by lifestyle, so it always fluctuates and changes...it's up to us how we want to deal with it & if we want to give up or not.

This is a time where i've actually been eating extra ... and i myself know that i am going to have to dial it back again. trust me, it's never simple.

mylilsista on 03/16/2017:
Thanks for your support...It helped :)

Commented about Fitbits on your previous post..

I do not have any suggestions for low calorie dinners. Lately, in an effort to save money and have good dinners, I've been referencing my new book "Fix-It and Forget It Crockpot Big Book" which has some wonderful recipes in it, but I have been disappointed by all of the "light" dishes. So no help there. Sorry!

mylilsista on 03/11/2017:
I, too, have been disappointed with some of the lite recipes in a few of my cookbooks. We have been experimenting with various foods & food preparation methods-in an effort to discover low-calorie sides and entrees that actually taste good. So far, a couple of successes and a few not-so-good experiments. Thanks for your comments. Have a great day! Lisa

happy-1 on 03/11/2017:
Yum. Good food. Healthy portions. Keep it going!

Horn_of_plenty on 03/12/2017:
i like that breakfast mix! the egg whites with the ham...interesting and tasty!

as for adhering to the calories, you'll lose weight even if you up them a little bit...you will DEF loose weight even at `1500-1600...if on some days it'd help to eat more?

also, adding some fats and less carbs - like instead of breakfast 2 pcs toast, maybe just one and also 1/4 avocado...fats like a few nuts (20 or so almonds or 1.4 avocado) is same calories as 1pc bread but more satisfying. so have less carbs and more fat...

Hello everyone...I was at the hospital for a while yesterday, with a loved one whom had surgery.  I wasn't hungry before I left home, so skipped breakfast.  Later, for lunch, I had some PF Changs hot & sour soup (low cal/delicious).  Last night for dinner, had salmon and french green beans & a delicious low cal smoothie.  I was proud of myself for not using my being at the hospital-- for a portion of the day--as an "excuse" to eat fast food (out of convenience).

My Fitbit arrived today.  It is on the charger now...I am excited to have something monitoring my activity level.

Have a great day folks!
