Progress :)

I had a good weekend... Too quick as usual and I didn't get to do all of the things I had planned but that's ok. The main reason for that was an unplanned girls day out :). My friend and I went to kohls and then out to eat at a nice sushi place for lunch. I had alot of kohls cash to use up before it expired and I needed some clothes for winter. I got some nice sweater wraps and...bought jeans!! I haven't worn jeans in months because obviously I can't wear any of my old ones anymore and I refused to buy "fat jeans" but I forced myself to do it. The size wasn't pretty but I got 2 pairs that will last me for awhile on my journey with the aid of a belt when the weight starts to come off, until my old jeans fit again. I also got a pair one size smaller that I found on clearance for $7 that I just couldn't leave there lol. They will fit in 5-10 pounds ;).

I ate well over the weekend. I had 2 sushi rolls on Saturday and that was about the only "indulgence". We made shrimp pad Thai and I had that for dinner Saturday and then leftovers Sunday night. I need to revise my last entry because i got the name of my cookbook confused. the one I actually have been using is called "Now Eat This" by Rocco Dispirito. His recipe for pad thai was amazing! and only 5.5 grams of fat vs the unhealthy 45 grams of fat version. On Friday I had tried the book's general Tso's chicken and it turned out bad but only because I messed up the recipe. It called for low sodium everything and I couldn't find any low sodium soy sauce in my house so it came out way too salty with the proportions in the recipe. I will try it the right way next week.

I have to go for now, time to do some activities with my kiddos :).

Congrats on the loss and awesome deal at Kohl's! That's too bad about the General Tso's, but soy sauce can be a real killer. I keep low sodium but I also use Bragg's liquid aminos as a good substitute. I hope you have a great day!

Happy Friday!

This week has been going really well :). I haven't been focusing on exercise just yet...more on getting my eating and snacking under control. I find that if I jump in full force I get overwhelmed. Personally I also find that when I exercise alot before getting my sugar and junk food cravings under control, that the ravenous hunger I feel after the workouts only amplifies my craving and I end up bingeing and even justifying it with "oh well I worked out hard today so that's ok". So I'm taking it slow this week and so far so good. I was able to cut down/out my mindless snacking and am now back to a healthy 3 meals/2 snacks a day. Before I was eating breakfast, lunch, snacking until 4:30pm, and then eating a huge dinner of 2nds and more snacking after. No wonder I gained all this weight over the past year.

Speaking of weight, I haven't really seen a huge loss yet. It's only been about a week that I've been giving this a real effort since thanksgiving. I will say that I have seen a loss of about 3 pounds that I had put on over that holiday weekend though, which is nice :). 205.4 this morning, so about half a pound down from my starting weight when I came back to Dietdiaries. I'll take anything that isn't a gain!

I've been trying new things this week. I busted out one of my favorite cookbooks..."Eat This, Not That!". I LOVE all of the recipes and the fact that they are comfort foods re-done healthily. Even my husband is impressed. After my breakdown to him recently about how I am not happy with myself and how it is affecting my everyday life and overall mood, he has pretty much known I am trying to eat better and start exercising again. Well I made him the steak fajitas from that book for dinner and he loved them! He said to me " this is 'diet' food? I could get used to it!" Lol

The recipe as I made it is as follows:: Ingredients:: two 6oz portions of filet minon 1 cup fresh salsa ( I used fresh pico de gallo from the store) Fajita seasoning ( I use Ms. Dash chili lime seasoning. I love those seasonings because they are salt free and therefore guilt free in my book!!) 1 large onion and 1 large green bell pepper sliced thin 1 avocado 1/2 lime Wheat flour tortillas 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

--turn a skillet on to high heat -- season the filets with the seasoning and spray lightly with cooking spray -- cook filets for 3 minutes on each side (I cooked mine longer since the recipe makes them medium rare and I like medium) -- take off heat and put on plate covered in foil to rest --season onion and pepper and spray lightly with cooking spray (at this point before I put the veggies in the skillet that I had cooked the meat, I kept the heat on and added a little bit of water to get all the flavor from the pan and then added the veggies and mixed them all into it) -- cook the pepper/onions for about 7 minutes until soft -- take the avocado and mash it up, add juice from 1/2 lime, and mix in the pico de gallo/salsa. You can also add fresh chopped cilantro if you like more of that flavor, but my pico had plenty of that already -- once the veggies are done cooking, uncover the meat and slice it really thin -- to assemble fajitas take a flour tortilla, add some meat, veggies, a side of salsa guacamole, and a spoon of plain Greek yogurt --delicious!!

The great thing about this meal is you get a nice single serving and feel satisfied. I was able to have one fajita and be ok with that and the favors were rich so I didn't feel the need to snack afterwards or have seconds :) I did have some homemade applesauce later on for a snack though, and that was a nice healthy dessert!

Another thing I tried recently was cottage cheese. I think I have done this a few times...tried to give it a chance in my regular diet. It's the cold texture that really is off putting for me, but I know it's a healthy snack so I gave it yet another shot yesterday with some pineapple for an afternoon snack. :/ I had to mix it REALLY well with the fruit so that there was no plain left and it all had the fresh pineapple taste. Then I didn't eat it right away, I let it sit for a few minutes and get more to room temperature. It wasn't terrible but still not one of my favorite things by any means lol.

Today I am making a revised version of General Tso's Chicken with broccoli from the Eat This Not That book. I will post the recipe if it turns out good and is husband approved ;)

So glad it's the weekend! I have alot of plans...do the usual cleaning, hit the gym, put up our Christmas tree and decorate, work on a project for my parents for their Christmas present, and put together the twin bed we have been storing for my 3 year old in place of his toddler bed :). It's about time he get an upgrade I think...we will see if I get to that step! Lol

Those fajitas sound super yummy - I like using Greek yogurt in place of sour cream! Definitely post the General Tso's if it's good, that's my hubby's favorite. Your overall plan sounds good for just getting back to healthy eating and making it a habit. I hope you have an excellent weekend!

Good afternoon!

So my Thanksgiving went well :) hope everyone else's did too!

I had a serving of turkey, half a roll, corn, scoop of green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and some stuffing. Along with gravy. I did well on the "dinner" portion. I had a slice of pumpkin and a slice of apple pie. All in all I did good that day since all I had was coffee, oatmeal, and thanksgiving dinner to eat all day.

Yesterday wasn't all that great though. The leftover pie is what got me :(. I had another 2 slices and a scoop of ice cream. Oh well it could have been much worse. During thanksgivings of the past I used to eat seconds and even thirds of the meal and dessert. This time I spread it out over 2 days instead of all in one and then leftovers on top of that.

Today has gone really well. My husband and I went to the gym and I did 3.5 miles on the elliptical.

Breakfast:: 2 cups of coffee, oatmeal with raisins

Lunch:: salad with turkey, Granny Smith apple

Snacks:: celery sticks and carrots

Just gotta keep this up! I'm glad I got to the gym since I need to get back to that routine!

I also wore my Fitbit after a week of not using it yay!

Not too bad today...trying my best to keep my snacking under control. Tomorrow will be a challenge because it's the Thanksgiving potluck for my husband's work. I will be making stuffing to take as our dish. There will be a ton of desserts there so I will have to resist those and save my splurge for Thursday and some homemade apple pie that I will be making for dinner :). I am so excited to see my parents for Thanksgiving!

It would be nice to see a loss next week but after this big holiday coming up I will be proud of staying the same.

How did I let myself get this bad? :(

I have gained over 40 pounds in a year!!!

I'm the same weight as the day I went in to give birth to my first child...

I'm 25 pounds heavier than the day I went in to give birth to my second child...

And I'm 40 pounds heavier than the day I got home after having my second child!

Talk about a reality check! Hello?! I need one!

Long road ahead but going to keep moving forward.

I'm really sad today because my best friend here at the base I'm at finally got her orders and it's not close to where we will be going. So now it's hitting me that we are really leaving away from all family and friends...and that everything is going to change.

To top it off my house is a complete mess and my 3 year old has been having accidents on purpose today. He purposefully went into the bathroom and instead of peeing on the toilet he decided to pee on my floor. Nice. Just not a great day at all...not to mention the absurd number on the scale.

It's so much easier just to give up and eat junk food for comfort but I am going to fight against that. So far today I have managed to keep it reasonable.

Breakfast:: oatmeal with almonds and raisins, coffee with chocolate caramel creamer

Lunch:: spicy shrimp sushi roll

And that's it. I'm hungry right now and would love to grab some chips but will aim for the fruit bowl and snag an apple. Ugh. Maybe I can convince my husband to go to the gym with me later :) man I shoulda never sold my treadmill but we just didn't have the room for it anymore :(. I have had an elliptical on my wish list for awhile now so maybe once we settle into our new house next year I can finally get one!! That would be amazing!!!

Sorry this entry isn't too positive. I guess any entry is better than none...gotta keep myself accountable!

thank you for comments on the pictures! One year I gained 40 lbs too and i know how you are feeling....one good thing is, you can start over and from this day on it will be a day closer to -40 lbs or more. Good for you for taking the apple :) As a military wive, i TOTLALLLY GET where you are coming from with the friends leaving.......were PCSing next week and zachs not coming with me, but he's going to afghan in jan :( but we've got this! Ok so I messed up and ate breakfast before I remembered to step on the scale. No biggie, will just weigh in tomorrow :)

Breakfast:: Oatmeal with raisins and almonds, half a red apple, 2 cups of coffee with pumpkin spice creamer

I have developed a bit of a coffee habit over the past month. Used to be I wouldn't even drink it when my husband made it every once in awhile. Now I find myself having up to 2 cups when he makes it and brewing it on days he leaves for work and forgot to :/. Maybe I should switch to decaf to ensure I am just drinking it for the taste not the caffeine effects lol

Anyway, time to make a late lunch....will be back later or tomorrow morning to update!

---- rest of the day was nuts after breakfast I might add lol some crazy stuff went down and that's all about that :p ----

Lunch:: tuna on wheat bread with a slice of American cheese

Snacks:: 2 string cheese sticks and a bowl of chip "crumbs" (they were all crunched up lol)

Dinner:: went out to Buffalo Wild Wings and aimlessly gorged myself on 10 boneless wings and a few chips with buffalo chicken dip (appetizer)....ohhhh the SODIUM!! :(

Needless to say a terrible day of eating. Aside from a measly handful of raisins and half an apple not ONE fruit or vegetable to be found on my menu! disgusting! i had some stressful stuff happening all day and as a result I ate poorly. Ok that's an excuse. But yeah. My husband wanted to go out to eat and has been bugging me to do so for days. Guess I could have ordered a salad but when we got there it was already 6pm and after figuring out what the kids wanted the waitress suddenly appeared ready for our order so I just ordered what came off the top of my head. Dumb

Seriously this has got to stop. I have gained hmmm about 30-40 pounds since I gave birth to my second son in 2011. Ri-di-cul-ous.

All of it started with post partum depression and then when I finally kicked that in the butt we get hit with orders to another base. The bad part is we don't go til 9 months from now so now I'm stuck in this funk where I KNOW we are leaving and it's just dragging on and on and making me even more sad. It would almost be better if we were going tomorrow!

Anyway, tomorrow I am going to actually not forget to weigh in lol even though I should have done it today for sure because after tonight and my idiotic eating that number will be even higher and make this all seem more daunting than it already is.

On a happier, more positive side, once I get my junk food detox under way I think I can kick my my junk food snacking habit and maybe see that number slowly creep down ;)

Starting tomorrow.....starting TODAY since it's midnight....I am going to log my food and exercise. Alot has happened and I have hit a major backslide in my weight loss since I left. Coincidence? I think not! I know coming here helps but at some point, when you start to slip up and gain weight, you feel ashamed to come back. That's where I have been for the past...well idk how long.

Today is a new day...time to get back to doing what I know I need to do to get healthy.

For now my body needs SLEEP lol

Official and brutally honest weigh in "in the morning"....I will gather my courage and type whatever number that pops up on the scale. No more hiding from my mistakes, time to learn from them, fix them, and move on.

Just stopping in to log really quick :).

Yesterday was another good day. I walked an hour on the track and even jogged some of it. My food intake was very healthy as well. I think I am finally breaking the sugar/carb cycle. I have been only consuming sugar via fresh fruits, no processed empty calories. Carbs have been the same, whole grains, no junk. After 3 days without these things I don't feel the cravings. I have been eating raw almonds and raisins for a healthy snack in the afternoons where I used to binge on cookies and junk.

This weekend will be a bit of a challenge since we are going back home for my nieces' joint birthday party. My sister in law rented out a bouncy house type playplace and there will be alot of kids. Unfortunately there will be alot of pizza, cake, and ice cream as well. BUT the only thing I have working in my favor is the actual time of the party. When my SIL rented it out there was only a morning slot available on that day so it starts at 9:30am LOL i'm pretty sure no matter what time we eat I will be able to avoid the junk since it will be so early in the afternoon when they serve it. I'm going to eat a nice big healthy breakfast before we go, and also sneak some healthy munchies in my purse for the kids and myself since i'm sure pizza wont be good enough lol.

Other than that nothing else to really report. I did hit the gym for an hour this morning and re-did the Insanity Fit Test this afternoon. Man my numbers aren't good but hopefully they will improve. Tomorrow I am going to do the second day workout of the program. We are leaving tomorrow night so I want to get some good exercise in before I am stuck without a gym or dvd all weekend. Maybe I can sneak in some walking, and I'm sure i will be chasing the boys all day at the party on saturday since my youngest is a new walker and still stumbles alot so he needs to be followed around lol.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I will try to make it to log tomorrow but have alot of errands to run before we leave so might not.

Yay for Insanity! BTW, are you on the beachbody website? If so, look for me and add me as your buddy! I mainly use it to log all my workouts on the WOWY calendar. Its so nice seeing the number of workouts add up. I've almost gotten 100 done since I started using the site in April!

lol, I decided to move the blocks upstairs today as they only get thrown around on the hardwood floor (loud!!). I have to keep the two sets that we got in a reusable grocery bag since the original storage bags got destroyed by Ethan during his toddler years.

Another month gone by that I have been absent....time to get back to logging!

I have been doing ok I guess. I am trying to break a vicious cycle I seem to be stuck in with my weight...losing and regaining the same 5 or so pounds. I guess in all reality I am not eating enough calories to be "gaining" the pounds back in fat, so it's basically just water weight going up and down when I go from eating completely clean and healthy to junk and back to healthy, etc. I wish I wasn't an "all or nothing" type of person. I really need to lose this way of thinking because it isn't getting me anywhere.

Yesterday was successful..

Exercise was 1 hour gym time interval training

Food included a large orange, serving of raw almonds, cherry craisins, blueberries, strawberries, salad with chopped tomato and a whole avocado on top with a tbsp of ranch, peas, a serving of whole grain pasta with sauce and a chicken breast (homemade chicken parmesan).

Yesterday was pretty much a "detox" day, as I like to call it. I eat mostly fruits and veggies and stay away from dairy when I am trying to get my body back to healthy eating. I ate about 1500 calories according to my calorie counting app on my phone.

Today I'm getting ready to pack the kids into the jogging stroller and hit the track for a solo walk/jog. I love walking with friends, but actually prefer to go by myself since I won't feel obligated to talk the whole time and can actually focus on pushing myself =).

Do you know how many calories you're supposed to be eating? My armband says I should be eating 2100. Im not sure if thats the right amount, since I seem to be maintaining both my BF% and weight on it, lol. I've tried experimenting going lower and I seem to gain weight, so it must be close to ideal. Im guessing its the exercise Im doing. Im so focused on strength which makes me think Im slacking in cardio intensity.

Walking and talking always slows me down, so I prefer to be by myself too. However, hiking a mountain and talking can be much more challenging. :)

yes, get yourself that armband for your birthday! I love my bodymedia fit armband as I quickly learned that I wasnt eating enough for my activity needs. Its one of the best health investments I've ever made! :)

Can't believe it's already Thursday! This week has gone great so far :)

Tuesday woke up and went to the free gym on base. It's brand new with a room that has a kids section where they are in the room with you but behind a lockable gate..more like a wall. I love it! They have tons of toys and even a pack and play and tv for the kids. It's still open enough where you can talk to your kids without getting off your machine. I am able to get a full hour intense workout on the treadmill/elliptical that way :). My weight training I do at home via dvds. I am going to def try to transfer my other gym membership, or just ride it out and go on the weekends when i can leave the boys at home. It's up in August so I owe $90 and if I cancel now I would have to pay $80 with all the fees unless my husband gets orders right away. One of my friends is really into working out so we have been going to the base gym together and I just like it better. We went again today. Yesterday we skipped because my sister and mom drove up to spend the day with us. My sister leaves Saturday for Korea so it was nice to see her again and have her see the boys.

Food has been very good. I have been using Calorie Count on my phone to log my intake and ensure I get enough of each vitamin and food group. It has a daily analysis feature that grades you based on your choices and exercise and I have been getting "A's" :). You can even publically share your days and see other people's as well. Pretty cool. I dont do that, but I like logging for myself. I have an issue getting enough iron so i need to look into how to get more in my day. I might start buying Total cereal again since thats what i ate when i was anemic after my csection. ...but i love my oatmeal and dont want to give it up :(.

Since I didnt go to the gym yesterday, I went with my mom and sis to the track with the kids and we jogged/walked. There is a playground next to it so we went there afterward. We ordered pizza for dinner and I had a yummy slice of veggie pizza with tomatoes, peppers, onions, black olives, and mushrooms. So good!!

Gym went well again this morning. I have to go see my doctor at 1 to recheck my ear since I am still experiencing minor pain and some fuzziness once in awhile and it's been a few weeks since I took the antibiotics. Just want to make sure its cleared up.

My toddler is being extra rowdy today so 1pm isnt really an ideal time to have to go, but it's all they had.

Good to see your enthuastic post! My daughter uses MyFitnessPal to log food and exercise on her phone, but I couldn't get used to it....:o) Glad it's working for you!
