I ate the cake.   Sad... no willpower....

Exercise today--    one hour class of weights and abs  and then 3 hours of heavy duty yardwork- I'm basically dead tired

Food- breakfast- 100 cal. muffin, orange, lunch- turkey sandwich on thin bread  dinner- whatever I can prepare that doesn't take too much energy- maybe chicken on greens. I use any excuse to try fig balsamic vinegar that I opened recently.

And then later this evening- going over to my daughter's house for birthday cake. Well at least the rest of the cake will stay at her house.

I would have eaten the cake, too. I can't keep stuff like that, either. I have to give it away or else! Hey - if it's there is is supposed to get eaten, right? Leave that cake a daughter's tonight, though! LOL wink!

Hi all-

 The last two days have been ok with a few exceptions. I'm off my ususal exercise routine & need to get back to it. Friday was golf which consisted of half walking/ half using a cart. Saturday no exercise at all. So today will at least get out for a walk.

I haven't been writing down my calories- which I have to start doing again- but have been trying to keep calories at 1400. I probably went a bit over yesterday as I had a second piece of yummy lemon cake . :(   We had friends over for dinner & I gave myself a sliver of the cake but it was so good that I found myself having a second piece.Now the rest of the cake has to get thrown out or I will eat it. I am a person who can't have certain  foods in the house.

And heart healthy- not so much for last night's dinner but otherwise eating more fruits and vegetables.

Today - Cereal for breakfast, salad with turkey for lunch & still need to plan for dinner

Hi -

Ok, back - day #2. How many days does it say it takes  to get yourself on a routine?  30?

Anyway- yesterday was a good day- maybe a little low on fiber- have to concentrate on more fruits- like apples & oranges. I could easily eat both each day which would help.

Today- cereal  w/ almond milk & blueberries, lunch green salad w/ tom & chicken & vin & olive oil.Dinner is not yet planned- maybe a fish of some type w / veg.

No exercise yet today- try to get out for a walk or a bit of yard work.

Saw a small drop  on the scale- always a nice sight.

Hi D D Friends,

I'm going to make a real effort to get back on DD - aiming at every other day, but at least 3 times a week.

Now I'm concentrating on trying to lower my cholesterol without taking statins. Every medication I take gives me muscle pain & that just doesn't work for me. So I've done some research and know that # 1 I have to lose some weight. Also need to exercise regularly, eat more fiber, more vergetables, fruits, less red meat, little dairy. I've started on some of those but need to concentrate and be consistent. Not so easy but not impossible.

So today- cereal w/ Almond milk for breakfast, large salad with chicken, greens, apple, olive oil & balsamic vin. for lunch. Good start.  Dinner is a new recipe for Sante Fe chicken w/ salsa & rice

Exercise has been yard work- is there no end to what needs to be done outside? It is a nice day so I'm enjoying my clean and sunny screened porch . It is finally Spring!

And is it too much to ask to lose 1 lb a week?  Of course I'm now losing the weight that I put on in the last 6 months.... :(  But better than adding to that weight, right?  

I'll report back on those goals.

Good to see an update from you! Not sure if you drink coffee, but if you happen to drink it unfiltered (french press for example) it can contribute to higher cholesterol. Of course I think everyone is different, but I wish you well getting your cholesterol down without medication.

RYC: I am much better off physically without coffee starting with perimenopause in about '09. Before that it was my good old friend:-) I went quite a few weeks without it last fall and it's been hard to get rid of again. I drink so little of the regular now, but that little bit is enough to keep me on the hook, in a manner of speaking:-)

So basically I'm not back to where I was when I first started , but did put back about ten pounds which just kills me when I think of how hard it was to lose those pounds. And by the way why is it so much harder to lose than it is to gain. :) Not fair...

Okay so pretty good day- Vita mufin for breakfast, soup for lunch , salmon, green beans & sweet potato, glass of wine for dinner. Snacks- a few bites of brownie that I baked  for a neighbor, a handful of walnuts. A 40 min walk.

Tomorrow- Zumba!!

I know exactly how you feel. I put on 15 pounds between xmas and the end of Feb during all our travels, having a guest, etc. But we can both get it back off. I was kicking myself as well, but it's pointless. Just do it. :)

Finished the 3 day cleanse/detox. All in all I'm glad that I did it. I thought maybe it was an answer to my sleeping problem when I got a good night sleep after day 1 but then woke up early after day 2 so didn't feel bad about going back to my morning cup of coffee. Weight loss- maybe 3 lbs- was probably 4 but then gained one back the next day so probably 2-3. More than anything I was trying to break my sugar & flour carb attacks.

Received our shipment so have been busy finding a place for everything. Also getting ready for family for Christmas.

Well the 3 day detox is going ok. I was joking to my husband though that I may make it a 2 day detox. It is 4 shakes all made with fruit, vegetables, flax seed and various other ingredients, including cayenne pepper in the evening shake. I'll see what the weight loss is after the third day but I can tell you that most of it is water. One thing they should say is to stay close to the bathroom during the three days- many trips to the bathroom. The calorie total each day is around 1300 so not such a low calorie diet. One of the positive things is that I now can tell you that I love almond butter- one of the shakes has 1 Tof almond butter.

Didn't make it to the gym yesterday but did get there today for Zumba. The teacher is so creative & incorporated some Christmas music into the routines.

Hope everyone is doing okay. Not easy during the holidays.

I bought a particular brand of almond butter once and almost couldn't keep my spoon out of it. I've never been that way with peanut butter.

Glad the detox is going well--good to step outside the box from time to time!

Hi All-

Well , confession time- things have gone down hill... Just haven't paid much attention to what I've been eating. And the scale has responded in kind!

So, today I started Dr. Oz's 3 day detox diet. Didn't have breakfast and started with the lunch shake.I bought all of the ingredients this morning so definitely going to do the three days. Lunch shake had kale, cucumber, celery, 1/2 apple, pineapple, lime juice, almond milk and coconut oil. I read a few reviews and others have said that the lunch shake was not good but I had no problem with it. The morning shake is mostly fruit with flax seed and a little spinach and the evening shake has fruits with avocado and coconut water.IThe diet also calls for an afternoon shake of my choice , from the 3 shakes. According to Dr. Oz the cost of the 3 day diet is $16. - which could be 16 per day which would be more realistic but since I had to buy everything ( ddn't have anything in my pantry) it cost about $100. Of course that was at Whole Foods ( or whole paycheck as it's lovingly called around here).  Has anyone else tried this?

Other than that- exercise has been sos-so , for last week. i had a dinner party here & it seemed to consume my whole week with decorating , buying the food and cooking. I will goto the gym  this afternoon and then Zumba tomorrow.

Everyone  I know is just turned upside down with the school shootings. It just makes us feel so powerless and vulnerable even though we'd like to think that nothing like that could ever happen again. There is no way to know. I think about when I grew up and how things have changed. I hope that President Obama can make change in the gun laws.

Look forward to catching up with everyone.

Progress as of today: 18 lbs lost so far, only 13 lbs to go!

I've never tried that detox--or really any type of detox thing. (I have toyed with the idea of a 3-day juice fast--I think three days is good.) It sounds like it could help to get you to a "better choice" place. And if you settle on one of the shakes you like a lot you could make it a routine.

I hope something is at least discussed at length after this, but I don't have high hopes.

Didn't get on  DD yesterday to record my foods.

B- Pumperknickel toast w/ little butter & honey, L- Brocolli/cheddar soup at Paneras ( cup) with piece of fr bread, D- vegg burger & stir fried greens Snacks-yogurt,  too many pretzels...Hmm.. relaized that I had no fruit. Good to write down food for that reason alone.

So two days without wine & it isn't bothering me- just a habit so would like to have more days without wine than with- I'll see how that goes.

No exercise yesterday- just shopping , visiting, stopping by the grandchildren as they did their homework.

Today off to my rug hooking group- a great group of women from 92-30's in age. Like the days  when women got together to knit or darn- great conversations and support. They have been very supportive while I've been away & welcoming when I return.

B- pumperknickel toast, atuna sandwich picked up at trader Joe's yesterday, supposed to  be 300 calories., same dinner as last night , snacks, carrots, yogurt, apple

Basically still haven't seen a change in the scale & the number posted is not even close so may be forced to change it - again more of a motivator for me to keep it & try to get back to that number but I have to be realistic & will change it in 2 weeks.

Progress as of today: 18 lbs lost so far, only 13 lbs to go!

I think your foods from yesterday look good, and I agree it's helpful to post too see areas where we may be lacking or taking in too much. Your rug group sounds wonderful, I'm sure it's a lot of fun!

That is so cool that you have a warm welcoming committee and support from them while you were away :) Good job on cutting back on the wine intake. I have been trying to do the same til vacation..It helps when I don't pick up bottles from the store.LOL I made the mistake of buying one yesterday and as I was heating up dinner out of habit I opened it..Sure i could have corked it but I didn't. So I broke my no drinking during the work week rule but for the next 2 weeks no more buying it til Saturday cause i just can't resist..
