Weight: 174.0

All is well with me but losing ounces not what I had hoped for this week but anyway getting back to posted weight a little at a time.

Yesterday went to the gym - 20 min ellipt, 20 mi on bike, 10 on upper weight machine & then some stretching. Now keeping track of food & exercise on an app and that seems to be working well as my IPad is handy to log my foods. Not sure about the exercise part of the app- the calories for the exercises are way off- way too high. So i just adjust the minutes to equal the number of calories burned.

Today no exercise yet but we'll see what the day brings- I feel so tired & actually thinking about going to the Dr to get some tests. I start feeling tired around 11 & then it's just a matter of when I'll be able to take a nap.  Last time I went when I was feeling like this I had mycoplasma & took antibiotics. See how I feel next week- although this has been going on for awhile. If I don't et exercise in the morning it's unlikely that I 'll feel up to it. No other symptoms.

Have to go for my nail appointment. Hope I don't fall asleep in the chair- it happened once.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

I hope you feel better <3

liza36 on 05/18/2012:
Have you had your thyroid checked? Being really tired is one of the symptoms of an underactive thyroid. Just a thought. Hope you feel better.

Umpqua on 05/18/2012:
Feel better soon!!

grannyannie on 05/18/2012:
Hope you feel better soon! You did well on the workouts.

hollybelle on 05/18/2012:
Yes, go checkout your status with the doc! Sooner you start to feel good, the better. Good job on the excerise. I am a morning person and would prefer morning exercise, but lately I have had more energy at night - as I think I am losing a little and building muscle. Hang in there!

selina on 05/18/2012:
Good job on the exercises! Good idea of going to the doctor for a check up. Stay well!

My favorite song that my choir is singing this term-

Gonna Rise Up Singing it's a brand new day, I see the sun is a shinin' and the rain isn't fallin' like it was just yesterday. So I feel like livin', Got a reason to say,Gonna rise up singin' throw my troubles away 'cause it's a brand new day...

Pretty much sums up my thoughts about losing weight!  And I really belt this song out- for one thing it's in my range and not hard to sing but also-I just plain like it.

Today- whew, did alot of walking- started out with my walk/jog- just about 30 min, then after my choir concert I walked home- another 30 min. Then had an appointment in the afternoon & walked to do some shopping- found a  white sundress , linen pants, beach coverup , 2 tops - that's kind of what happens to me when it comes to shopping- when I'm in the mood & things fit (!)  and in this case were not more than I would pay in the States, and then walked home, total 45 min in the afternoon. Definitely worth a foot rub from my husband tonight. Oh I also paid way too much to get a small carved  reclining buddha that we've been looking for forever.

Food- B- wholegrain toast w lf butter, Lunch- turkey cranberry wrap, snacks- this is where I seriously need to be more careful- cheddar cheese- a few small chunks, 2 wafer thin crackers w pb & nutella, a small piece of pastry after the concert, lime soda. Dinner will be chicken stir fry with lots of great veggies.

Gonna Rise up singing....

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 05/16/2012:
Great song - enjoy the day!

V on 05/16/2012:
Good morning! Keep on singing that song my friend :)

Umpqua on 05/16/2012:
Wonderful song! RE your comment on my energy, I find that when I'm working out consistently I have a lot more energy in general for home projects, etc. I'm still trying to work to build endurance and stamina though, I'm determined not to let a little thing like growing older get in my way ;P Have a good one!

supercheese on 05/16/2012:

Hi all-

Had what I thought was a good day yesterday but no progress on the scale but then the battery died on the scale after I weighed myself. Maybe a sign...? Anyway, today I was supposed to go out to lunch with a group of people & then decided that I didn't need the pressure of figuring out what I could eat  that was healthy.

I spent about an hour at the gym yesterday  & haven't decided if I'll get our for a walk today. maybe after dinner when it's cooler. I can't take the gym two days in a row. Yesterday was the first time in a while that I"ve been on the ellliptical & I think I've increased my speed a bit since the last time - must be the jogging that I've been doing with my walking.

So far today- B- eng muff w/lf butter & bit of honey, L-lettuce ,fr. mozzarella, tom, slice of turkey w balsamic vin & dash of Olive oil, yogurt w T of lemon curd, 2 handfuls of peanuts.( I'm moving the can of peanuts.) Dinner will be last nights fish ( ended up having a turkey wrap last night)

Today was a meeting for prospective museum docents followed by a tour for interested people. Then skipped the lunch and went shopping. The basement level of the shopping mall has all the foods that I would love to eat if I had a super metabolism and ran 10 miles a day. It's fun to look. I bought a book for the next book group thinking that it would be on June 1 before I return & then get home to read a few emails from book group people who want to move the book group to the following week when i will be gone. I think that once a date is set and sent out to everyone that you should stick with it. Oh well... I may read the book anyway to keep up with the group. I did send an email voicing my opinion.

So, hoping to see some downward progress today . And i hope everyone is having a good day!

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 05/15/2012:
You're doing well with your meals and workouts! Have a great day!

RYC: For the last week I've done low cal every day (under 1350) and chose one of my heavy workout days for the 1800 cals. But I'm adjusting that this week. I really do need more cals on heavy workout days.

Kati on 05/15/2012:
yay for super metabolism, but who has that? I have a colleague who eats all crappy comfort foods all day and he's thin as a rake. Well, most men and only few women have super metabolisms!

V on 05/15/2012:
Good Morning :) I am sure you will see a drop with the weight soon. have a wonderful day!

supercheese on 05/15/2012:
oh mall food.....its a love hate relationship. I wish i had a super fast metabolism that let me eat whatever!

Umpqua on 05/15/2012:
You've been doing really well with food and exercise so I'm sure the scale will cooperate soon. I hope you're having a good one!

moogy on 05/15/2012:
Damn peanuts!!!Todays sabotage instrument!! Almonds are a much better bet and better for you:) I am with you on people messing around with dates:( I hope you have a great day today:)

Hi all,

I didn't achieve my goal of getting back to posted weight. And I hate changing that number just because it says that I've given in to that number. So will give myself the week to get back there or will change it.

I had a good weekend. Mother's Day without my daughters  is difficult but got though it with phone calls and had a good day with my husband.maybe contributed to eating a bit more than i should have.

Nothing on my calendar today which is okay with me. It's 10 in the morning & I haven't gotten dressed for the day. Maybe get over to the gym today which I haven't done since i got into my walking/jogging routine, but it'e been raining on & off so they gym looks like the best bet for exercise.

Just over 3 weeks until I leave so I have to remember that incentive for these weeks.

Planned food for the day- B- wholegrain toast w/ lf butter & honey, L- salad w/fresh mozz & lf dressing, D-myfavorite lowfatfish recipe -steamed fish w ginger, soy sauce & green onion topping & green beans, snacks- yogurt & watermelon.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

supercheese on 05/14/2012:
Youve stol lost 17 lbs which is amazing!!! its ok with settling goals back...as long asd you achieve it eventually :) Food looks really good!

hollybelle on 05/14/2012:
Leaveit for a few more days and get there this week!

V on 05/14/2012:
RYC yes we do what we can until we meet up with our family and friends again <3 I hope you have a good day :)

liza36 on 05/14/2012:
I don't think you've given in to the number on the scale, you're continuing to work at it, and you'll get back to where you want to be. Giving it another week is ok.

Umpqua on 05/14/2012:
I know you can get where you need to this week, you are determined. That's great that you're coming back here in only a few weeks, I'm sure you're super excited. Hopefully we can meet up this summer, maybe for a walk along the river and a coffee :) Have a good one!

sweetpea1977 on 05/14/2012:
You can do it if you want it bad enough!!

moogy on 05/14/2012:
Nothing wrong with having a 'nightie day'. Sometimes we all need to just relax!! Well, we have Easter and Mother's Day out of the way now so maybe this week you will be able to keep that number where you want it:) I am sending hopeful vibes over to you:)

Still keeping on track yesterday & today. Dinner will be more of a challenge as I'm going out to eat but will see if there is a menu online so I can be prepared.

Food so far- wholegrain toast w/lf butter & dab of honey, 1/2 sandwich at Staruck's chicken & apricot on wholegrain, 3 wafer thin crackers w/ pb & nutella Hmm... a bit lacking on fruits & veg. may have to do something about that at dinner

Exercise-45 min walk, jog with some running.

Concert number 2 today- at a hospice which I think is actually a senior day facility. This is my third concert at this facility so I recognize some of the clients. One lovely lady says," excellent" between every song and another says," will this be in English or Mandarin" before each song. we actually sing one song in Mandarin ( at least we give it a good try)The seniors are very appreciative as are their caretakers and the volunteers who work there so it's alot of fun for us. I'd love to know more about the seniors- what was it like living in Singapore before it became a modern city & what was their experience during the war ?

Going to a art opening tonight and dinner after which should be fun.

Also need to clarify that I'm still working to get back to my posted weight- not there yet, but getting close- hopefully by Monday. .

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

selina on 05/11/2012:
Enjoy your art opening and dinner, keep it up with the good work on getting back to your posted weight! I checked out The Fat Years from out local library - REALLY interesting, I'm loving the read!

Umpqua on 05/11/2012:

grannyannie on 05/11/2012:
Your interactions with the seniors sounds lovely. I used to work with the elderly and enjoyed it a lot. Maybe you can hang around a bit for a chat to ask them questions? Good job on the jog/run.

I'm making some progress of getting back to my posted weight.

Food today:

scrambled egg w cheese, several drinks to replenish after playing golf, salad w/ slice of turkey, fresh mozz, tomato & a sprinkle of dressing, 4 wafer thin crackers w pb & nutella, dinner to be salmon, asparagus & small potato, glass of wine, yogurt w lemon curd

Exercise today was golf & I'm still recovering, not so much from the exercise but from the heat- to think that last week I was wearing a wool scarf! After playing just 9 holes of golf I was completely drenched, every piece of clothing soaked through. So consider three women in the back of a taxi all in the same condition, not pleasant.

My chorus is in our spring season  and had our first performance at a school yesterday, tomorrow at a hospice , one on Saturday at a local food court (?!) next week another senior center and then our concert for our family and friends. For me I just invite my husband .  I enjoy the concerts for the public- they are very appreciative. Yesterday at the school for special needs I got a hug. Also one of the little boys would run up to each of the women in the first row and hold their hand. Then we found out that he has a thing about watches. So cute.

Trying to stay on track with food and exercise.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

selina on 05/10/2012:
Singing and golf - they do wonders for one's soul!

V on 05/10/2012:

Umpqua on 05/10/2012:
Your foods look yummy and healthy and yay for sweaty golf ;) Have a good one!

grannyannie on 05/10/2012:
You're back on track! I couldn't be trusted to keep Nutella in the house. Enjoy your chorus performances!

I've heard NZ is quite chilly. Were you cold everywhere you went?

RYC: I discovered organic pb in our only local supermarket (which is usually limited selections). Ingredients: 96% peanuts, oil and sea salt. I wouldn't be able to eat Skippy now which was always my favourite. Yuck.

liza36 on 05/10/2012:
Your chorus is very active. That's fantastic that you sing in so many venues. Too funny about the little boy.

Nice job on getting back to your posted weight.

I'm back! Well actually returned late Saturday from New Zealand but have been busy this week.

I had a fabulous trip. many miles on the road but we wanted to see as much as possible. The scenery was spectacular and we had some fun adventures- a jetboat ride down a river and a small plane ride over snow capped mountains to a cruise on Miford Sound. Beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, mossy  forests, pastures with sheep and cows.We saw penguinsand interesting birds which was fun. We were in some remote areas and one evening we drove into a small town that began as a mining town. We didn't have any reservations but saw a motel with a vacancy light on. Noone around but a sign that said to pick up the phone & the owner gave us the code to a locked box with the keys and said make ourselves at home & pay in the cafe across the street in the morning. We were the only guest s that night. Had fig scones and a flat white coffee in the morning at the Walnut Creek cafe!

And as for food- well let me just say that New Zealand has great lamb, beef, fish and seem to trun out fine baked goods as well, Also wine, fruit, and dairy products. So I managed to sample all of the above and gained afew pounds. I am doing well this week and hope to shed those pounds.

This week making a concerted effort with exercise and eating light- trying to stick with fish and chicken and limiting my starches.

Will try to read some posts. It's nice to be back!

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/09/2012:
Welcome back, the trip sounds incredible!

V on 05/09/2012:
Welcome back :) I am sure you have plenty of beautiful pics, I can't wait to see them!

selina on 05/09/2012:
Wow, your account of New Zealand sounds idyllic. I want to go there, too! ;) I also can't wait for the photos!

Moving is always a hassle although I've done it on a regular basis, every 4 years on average, in the past 25 years. One can make it as easy or as difficult as you wish. I don't do much, really, just let the movers deal with our stuff. I don't even take down the paintings from the walls - the movers take them down and pack. They also pack straight from the china cabinet. We are allowed to take almost 8,000 lbs in household goods via sea (about 7 crates, that's a lot), 700lbs via unaccompanied air, as many as 3 pieces of accompanied luggage(per person), the rest stay in storage in the US. Mainly furniture usually stay in storage because we always get furnished homes. The cats go unaccompanied cargo - poor things. They always survive but they lose several pounds during the ordeal.

moogy on 05/09/2012:
I knew you would have to buy a coat of some kind, NZ is damn cold!! even in Summer!! So glad you had a good trip, it is a pretty spectacular country, I know many people who come from NZ and now live in Australia, they call us the mainland:) In fact there are kiwi's everywhere! glad you are home safe and sound:) Back to the serious stuff!

Just a quick note as I am 90 % packed but there are always those little things that I tend to forget. And then the question of - bring a small suitcase as I'll be shlepping it around myself or bring a larger suitcase for those items i might buy. Going with the smaller one & can always buy a small bag for whatever I buy.I always think about the size 4 women who can pack alot into a small suitcase. :) Not something I'll have to worry about.

Won't have a chance to respond to everyone but thanks for the good wishes and yes Moogy I have a few warm clothes but I am afraid that I might end up buying a warmer jacket. I missed the season here when they were selling warmer clothing.

Hoping to keep in mind that I can sample some foods but 1, I do not have to eat everything on my plate  and 2. I will pick & choose only food that I will absolutely enjoy and I will try to avoid unhealthy snacking. I'll report back on how this plan worked.

Not looking forward to the long flight..... But just a warm up for going back to the States in June.

Hi all DD friends,

This is a great place to sort things out. And no i didn't come to any great revelations as to why I can't seem to budge off  this weight. And right now is not the time to make any huge changes. We leave for new Zealand on Wed.. for 10 days & I hear the food is very good there . It 's also my birthday & my husband's b'day during that time. So I hope to return without doing serious damage, if you get my drift...

Back to the question & lack of answers- I thought I was making progress with stepping up my exercise- with the 3 times a week of walking/ jogging with a little running thrown in but no return on that - athough i do enjoy it, so there you go I guess that's positive. But anyway-i figure I would have to cut down on my total of calories each day & I'm not ready to do that. And also i get bored here on the 14th floor some days & yes I may eat out of boredom & sadness .....

So, it's Sunday night - had a nice weekend of dinner out with a group of people, some from my museum program on Sat., church today & then met my friiend for coffee this afternoon. Also  long walk today. My husband made dinner tonight- fish & rice with a nice fruit salad.

I have been here on DD for about a year. I know I started around my birthday. And I want to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my posts and to comment. This is the first time that I have lost weight without being in a formal program like WW & the first time in many years that I have kept the weight off for this lengthof time which to me is huge. So thank you to all of my DD friends. I wish I could send you flowers and give you all a big hug!

Congrats on your success! You did it--it's your accomplishment for sure!

I completely give credit to this site and continuing to post for keeping a certain amount of my weight off--don't ask me how--I just know there's nothing else I can give credit to.

V on 04/22/2012:
Happy Anniversary <3 :) I am happy that you found your way to DD!

Umpqua on 04/23/2012:
Happy DD anniversary to you! You have made amazing progress and you should be very proud. And I know you'll figure out the next step in this journey. In the meantime, have an AMAZING trip to NZ, I can't wait to hear all about it!!

selina on 04/23/2012:
That's amazing what you've accomplished in one year! Congratulations! Enjoy your trip to NZ, take lots of photos! I adore this site, it's the only way to keep me centered! I can't talk about anybody in my "real life" about my weight loss/gains/problems, they'd be too bored and I would scare them away, jk, so this site is my last resort. I hope you can keep posting on a regular basis even when you are busy traveling... although I know it's difficult... Do you have a gym in your building?

moogy on 04/24/2012:
I think that just trying to figure things out is the hardest bit about losing weight and keeping it off. As long as you are willing to keep trying you are on the right path. Plus, there are more ways of measuring success, how your clothes feel, how much healthier you are getting etc. I always think it is good to have celebrations bunched together:) Working on the principle that it lessens the damage (I have no scientific knowledge to back this up I must admit!). Pack warm clothes for NZ won't you:)

Hi all-

Had a good game of golf. i played with a woman who is just playing for the second time. She will be a good golfer. Just a sweet woman who said " wow, look at that!" when I had a good shot. Soon she will surpass most of us on the 9 hole group who all play about the same. She drove me home since I couldn't get a taxi & so good that she did as it just poured and I would still be there waiting for a taxi since it's impossibe to get a taxi in the rain. She's Chinese, has lived in Hong Kong, Paris and Jakarta- so interesting to get to know people from all over the world.

Yesterday ended up fine. Today B- eng muff w/butter & honey: lunch - will be a  bowl of tomato soup, snacks planned- carrots with  hummus, yogurt w a little lemon curd, dinner- TBD

Ok off to heat up some soup and think about what Moogy said...... No promises that I'll have "the answer" but basically I need to think about why I am not willing to change my eating to get on with losing some weight.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

selina on 04/19/2012:
Golfing sounds like a lot of fun - with all the walking, you may get some real good exercise! My friends's daughter lost a lot of weight (around 30 lbs)when she took up golf as a teen because juniors are not allowed to have caddies to carry their gear, they have to carry their own stuff. I hope you'll find "the answer" in your own time... Meanwhile, stay well and keep it up!

Em17 on 04/19/2012:
Sounds like fun!

grannyannie on 04/19/2012:
It's nice you get to meet so many people from different cultures.

RYC: did you get to tour around Scotland when you came or did you just visit Glasgow?

V on 04/19/2012:
Hey there! Happy to hear you had a nice golf outing :) RYC For my Apppletini's I use a Citrus Vodka, Apple Pucker and triple sec, if you like them extra tart, squeeze fresh lemon wedge or a splash of sour mix..If you want to do a "skinny version" skip the triple sec and sour, it is just as tasty without the extra sugars :P have a good one!!

Umpqua on 04/19/2012:
I scrolled down to Moogy's comment and I don't think the answers will be easy to come by. Anything involving change is tough, and making a regular and constant change to eating habits is a big deal. You are a very healthy eater so it's a matter of fine tuning and figuring out what you need to do in the long term to achieve your goals. And it has to be a solution that doesn't leave you feeling deprived and resentful, it must be sustainable. There is no one-size-fits-all solution here, we can all share with each other what works for us but ultimately you have to figure out what will work best for you and get you the results you want. I know you'll come up with it!

liza36 on 04/19/2012:
Figuring out what changes to make, and then actually making them is hard stuff. I know you'll figure out what's right for you.

V on 04/19/2012:
Oh I also forgot if you like extra appley(is this a word? probably NOT Hahaha) you could use Apple Vodka..

moogy on 04/19/2012:
She sounds like a lovely woman. Glad you got your golf in before the rain hit:) Hope you finished up the day feeling good:)

hollybelle on 04/21/2012:
The answer! Yikes - that is thought provoking....I was there, too. I have made progress this week, and I have been wondering what the difference is - motivation. I'd say. But what makes it come and go? Dfferent answers for each of us, I guess, at different times. Sometimes I think it's like Forrest Gump said - "it's just one less thing to worry about". Sometimes I just don't want to plan that much. For me healthy eating is still not a natural habit. It isn't automatic. I can do it most of the time, but at other times....well, you get the picture!
