Still hanging in there with no wine, watching my carbs and exercising everyday.

Today exercise was treadmill for 30 min & varied my pace and incline & elliptical for just about 10 min with another 10 min on weight machine. Then later in the afternoon walked for 30-40 min.

Lunch was out at a restaurant - a heavier meal than I normally have for lunch- a local restaurant- so will try to eat light when I go out tonight.

That's it for now...hope eveyone has a great day.

 Help- I edited today's post and it didn't repost on the right day- read the next post- not this one!!  

Hi all,

OK, sticking with it & seeing a bit of progress which is enough to keep me going. I was beginning to think that my scale was actually stuck but it was me after all. :)

So 2 days no wine & trying to keep my eye on the carbs. not strictly counting but limiting the starches. And of course trying to maintain around 1400 calories & exercising. Keeping track on my calorie app.

Today , just a 1 hour walk- to the post office & then to a local wet market where I was the only caucasian in view. I had to rely on another customer to interpret for me when I ordered fish. he told me that the fish was very good & that it is the fish that they give women after they give birth, the old Chinese custom of taking good care of the post natal women.  I did feel a bit awkward in this very local market but I think the vendors appreciate the business. They always say" See you again" My clothes were just soaked through when I returned- a virtual fountain of perspiration! Oh & then at the hawker market  I had a fresh sugarcane drink- so good . I have no idea if this has alot of calories. Probably be a good idea to check it out! I should go back to watermelon juice.

Off to the regular market to buy basil & parsley for my fish recipe.

I could feel myself sweating as I read your entry, I guess there is always a price to pay for good things. How fabulous to have a wet market within walking distance. The sugarcane drink was probably just fresh sugar canes which they press through a wringer to extract the juice and yes, lots of calories, pure sugar. No wonder you enjoyed it:) I admire the way you have thrown yourself into the local lifestyle, you are an inspiration:)

That's a pretty cool account of going native in a foreign land - I like it! As for myself, I always had to send the maid to the wet market as she returned home with twice as many bags of fruits and veggies for the same amount of money. I'm afraid the natives had two sets of prices: one for locals, another for foreigners, which I did not appreciate very much. I love sugar cane juice, too. What a treat!

Good morning,

I looked up the sugar cane juice and , although there were different numbers, it doesn't look that bad- below 100 calories as it is just the juice from the sugar cane & lots of ice. it is pretty cool to watch them press the sugar cane.

A good day yesterday & around 1400 calories but I did have an ear of corn & probably could have had 1/2 an ear to really watch my carbs. Third day without wine and  I didn't even think about it.

Today got in my walk/jog with a couple of sprints thrown in & was tired after the 30 min so didn't do my usual longer walk. I am going out for a swim in a little while so that will be another 20 min of exercise.

I do have some challenges ahead- meals out for the next three nights. I know that one or two will be Indian food & the third is "finger food" so probably small sandwiches. Also lunch out tomorrow but I can have a salad. The Indian food presents a problem. Maybe a chicken dish. We usually share dishes so I'll have to be careful.

So glad that sugar was water down with ice!! Excellent! I am sure that is a typo and you didn't really have 4000 calories!!?? I have read that sticking with a prawn vindaloo (if you can stand the heat) is the best way to go with Indian:) Otherwise a little bit of everything and you may dodge the oil and cream! Fingers crossed:) Great job with the exercise thinkpositive:)

I love Indian food. Can you maybe get Tandoori chicken? Something without the rich sauces (that taste so yummy). I love tikka masala and vindaloo - Gringo Indian food ;) I'm sure your offerings there are much more authentic!

Hi all,

Not sure what is going on with my system. I'm doing pretty much what I had been doing & getting some success and now just at a standstill. But I'm not totally discouraged & trying to figure out what I need to be doing differently.

Still logging my calories on my IPad app & that works for me. Exercise has ben steady. Yesterday walked about an hour, not sure of the distance. Today went to the gym for 45 min. Trying to work my jogging up to 5 minutes. Might not seem like a big deal but something to work for.

So I'm trying to pay attention to my carbs and trying (!) to limit my wine. Didn't have any yesterday & trying to make it at least a few days in a row. I think it's just a habit to have a glass of wine & hard to break the habit.

Went to an interesting performance titled The Best Sex I Ever Had! It was 10 women on stage seated at a long table and a moderator who read off dates and then whoever had something that happened on that date would relate it. It pretty much concentrated on their sex life and marriage and it was very moving to hear some of their stories. The women were all from Singapore so there was definitely the culture of men being more valued than women and a very conservative culture. The audience was all women. The perfomance has been done around the world and always with a local audience. It did get pretty interesting and personal.

Today went to a wonderful museum lecture on Vincent VanGogh. I have to go to a art museum when I get home- there is an art museum here but only highlights modern art.

That performance does sound interesting, I didn't realize that women there were not valued as much as the men there :( I am sure you enjoyed the lecture on VanGogh, I love his works..Oh RYC Body Beast is a new beachbody program that is still under development..It is not my workout program(I wish) Just super stoked to do the program once it is available <3 have a good day!

Girlfriend...I know how hard it is to break the wine habit. I was just dusting all my bottles that I have aging and I felt like popping one open!! But, trying to limit my alcohol to the weekends only.

I also love theater and art. Sounded like an very interesting play and then the talk on Vincent Van Gogh...right up my alley.

Yesterday was , well a bit off on the healthy eating. I had a healthy breakfast and then went to an event for the museum volunteers where a waiter presented me with a choice, champagne or orang e juice. Well it was ten o'clock in the morning but I chose the champagne. It was a very elegant champagne brunch. Not that I had that much to eat  but I hadn't planned on consuming many calories at ten in the morning.

I did have over 2 hours of walking yesterday but managed to twist my ankle so taking it easy today.

Today- B- egg and 1/2 eng muff, L- turkey wrap, S- pear, strawberries, 4 small crackers w/ small amount pb.

Off to a movie- the Judi Dench movie about India.

Hi all,

Sorry about not being active here . I haven't been feeling as tired lately so holding off on seeing the Dr.

No real change in my status. Doing well withmy exercise but still not doing as well with eating-working on it...Calories are between 1400 on a good day to 1800 on other days. Trying to keep calories logged on my calorie app.

Had my last concert on Sunday which went well. It's a bit over the top for me- to sing in front of a real audience that has paid to see us perform. I prefer singing in the community for senior citizens and children. i got through it though & enjoy the group. Yesterday I guided a student tour at the museum.That was fun & the students were sweet. Not sure how much they got out of the tour but sometimes it's the first time that they have been to a museum so it's the total museum experience.

My husband is going away to a conference & will be gone for 4 nights so I'lll have to find activites to keep me busy. I should be ok & the positive part is that I have a bit more control over food as I can just cook for myself.

Hope all is well with DD friends.

Hey there. 1400-1800 sounds perfect to me! Give yourself some credit. My husband travels about once a month for about 4 days March thru August and I find I do very well on those days. So maybe you will, too. Not to mention I sometimes get caught up on housework and laundry when he's gone! Yay!

Actually, Holly is right. 1400-1800 calories a day is still very good and you are exercising. I found that when I eat up to 2k of calories and have a good workout, I still lose weight.

I'm envious you can sing!! I'm on Youtube doing karaake. You don't want to hear me!! LOL!!!

Your calorie range is great and you are exercising consistently, so I'm sure you're getting results. You said you don't measure, right? I'll bet you have lost some inches. I've been doing a lot of research into calculating lean body mass and fat percentages since I want to reduce a few problem areas but I'm not at all focusing on the scale. I'm finding out that the scale doesn't matter all that much when it comes to changing body composition. Keep up the good work!

All is well with me but losing ounces not what I had hoped for this week but anyway getting back to posted weight a little at a time.

Yesterday went to the gym - 20 min ellipt, 20 mi on bike, 10 on upper weight machine & then some stretching. Now keeping track of food & exercise on an app and that seems to be working well as my IPad is handy to log my foods. Not sure about the exercise part of the app- the calories for the exercises are way off- way too high. So i just adjust the minutes to equal the number of calories burned.

Today no exercise yet but we'll see what the day brings- I feel so tired & actually thinking about going to the Dr to get some tests. I start feeling tired around 11 & then it's just a matter of when I'll be able to take a nap.  Last time I went when I was feeling like this I had mycoplasma & took antibiotics. See how I feel next week- although this has been going on for awhile. If I don't et exercise in the morning it's unlikely that I 'll feel up to it. No other symptoms.

Have to go for my nail appointment. Hope I don't fall asleep in the chair- it happened once.

Yes, go checkout your status with the doc! Sooner you start to feel good, the better. Good job on the excerise. I am a morning person and would prefer morning exercise, but lately I have had more energy at night - as I think I am losing a little and building muscle. Hang in there!

My favorite song that my choir is singing this term-

Gonna Rise Up Singing it's a brand new day, I see the sun is a shinin' and the rain isn't fallin' like it was just yesterday. So I feel like livin', Got a reason to say,Gonna rise up singin' throw my troubles away 'cause it's a brand new day...

Pretty much sums up my thoughts about losing weight!  And I really belt this song out- for one thing it's in my range and not hard to sing but also-I just plain like it.

Today- whew, did alot of walking- started out with my walk/jog- just about 30 min, then after my choir concert I walked home- another 30 min. Then had an appointment in the afternoon & walked to do some shopping- found a  white sundress , linen pants, beach coverup , 2 tops - that's kind of what happens to me when it comes to shopping- when I'm in the mood & things fit (!)  and in this case were not more than I would pay in the States, and then walked home, total 45 min in the afternoon. Definitely worth a foot rub from my husband tonight. Oh I also paid way too much to get a small carved  reclining buddha that we've been looking for forever.

Food- B- wholegrain toast w lf butter, Lunch- turkey cranberry wrap, snacks- this is where I seriously need to be more careful- cheddar cheese- a few small chunks, 2 wafer thin crackers w pb & nutella, a small piece of pastry after the concert, lime soda. Dinner will be chicken stir fry with lots of great veggies.

Wonderful song! RE your comment on my energy, I find that when I'm working out consistently I have a lot more energy in general for home projects, etc. I'm still trying to work to build endurance and stamina though, I'm determined not to let a little thing like growing older get in my way ;P Have a good one!

Hi all-

Had what I thought was a good day yesterday but no progress on the scale but then the battery died on the scale after I weighed myself. Maybe a sign...? Anyway, today I was supposed to go out to lunch with a group of people & then decided that I didn't need the pressure of figuring out what I could eat  that was healthy.

I spent about an hour at the gym yesterday  & haven't decided if I'll get our for a walk today. maybe after dinner when it's cooler. I can't take the gym two days in a row. Yesterday was the first time in a while that I"ve been on the ellliptical & I think I've increased my speed a bit since the last time - must be the jogging that I've been doing with my walking.

So far today- B- eng muff w/lf butter & bit of honey, L-lettuce ,fr. mozzarella, tom, slice of turkey w balsamic vin & dash of Olive oil, yogurt w T of lemon curd, 2 handfuls of peanuts.( I'm moving the can of peanuts.) Dinner will be last nights fish ( ended up having a turkey wrap last night)

Today was a meeting for prospective museum docents followed by a tour for interested people. Then skipped the lunch and went shopping. The basement level of the shopping mall has all the foods that I would love to eat if I had a super metabolism and ran 10 miles a day. It's fun to look. I bought a book for the next book group thinking that it would be on June 1 before I return & then get home to read a few emails from book group people who want to move the book group to the following week when i will be gone. I think that once a date is set and sent out to everyone that you should stick with it. Oh well... I may read the book anyway to keep up with the group. I did send an email voicing my opinion.

So, hoping to see some downward progress today . And i hope everyone is having a good day!

RYC: For the last week I've done low cal every day (under 1350) and chose one of my heavy workout days for the 1800 cals. But I'm adjusting that this week. I really do need more cals on heavy workout days.

Hi all,

I didn't achieve my goal of getting back to posted weight. And I hate changing that number just because it says that I've given in to that number. So will give myself the week to get back there or will change it.

I had a good weekend. Mother's Day without my daughters  is difficult but got though it with phone calls and had a good day with my husband.maybe contributed to eating a bit more than i should have.

Nothing on my calendar today which is okay with me. It's 10 in the morning & I haven't gotten dressed for the day. Maybe get over to the gym today which I haven't done since i got into my walking/jogging routine, but it'e been raining on & off so they gym looks like the best bet for exercise.

Just over 3 weeks until I leave so I have to remember that incentive for these weeks.

Planned food for the day- B- wholegrain toast w/ lf butter & honey, L- salad w/fresh mozz & lf dressing, D-myfavorite lowfatfish recipe -steamed fish w ginger,soy sauce & green onion topping & green beans, snacks- yogurt & watermelon.
