Hi all-

I'm back. We had a good time in Borneo. Kuching isn't exactly a beautiful city but is in a good location , on a river and central to many national parks and activities. Our hotel was nice - a huge bathroom with the kind of bathtub that you can really stretch out in. Went to the Sarawack cultural village that was very well done & had a show that was outstanding. It turns out that I have talent with the blowpipe! You know the kind that they used with poisonous darts to kill animals.I , however just hit a couple of balloons. Borneo was the land of headhunters so that was interesting to learn about. We also went to a orangutan rehabilitation area where they live free in a jungle. We went at feeding time so got to see about 10- fascinating.

So food wise, well, it was a little vacation so didn't really count calories. And I rediscovered the black russian- the kind with vodka & kahlua.  They had a live group playing on Sat night which was fun. And I had to support the bar tender- right V?

I had a dream that I put the scale away in a drawer. So I'm thinking about not getting on the scale every day. I don't want to to be so tied to what it reads every day.

This is a busy week & we have friends coming on Sat. & will stay for five days & then it will be moving time. I'm trying to organize things so it won't be hard to pack things up for the move.

I haven't been writing down food or calories & know that I'm over my 1400. Need to start paying attention again.

Ok- so back to counting calories. Exercise is good- did some walking while away & on Tues did a 1/2 hour walk /jog & then walked for 45 min. Wed,no  time for exercise, today played golf.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

moogy on 03/22/2012:
Well, what a fabulous talent to gave in case you need to 'bump' someone off!!! The police would never get a lead on you:) I love orangutangs, precious, gentle creatures. Sounds like you had a great time:) I am using an Intuitive Eating plan, hence the no calories, no weighing etc. It's really hard to let go, I have no clue how I am doing except that I am feeling a little better about my relationship with the dreaded but much loved food:) Glad to have you home safe and sound, looks like you have made a good start to getting back on track:)

grannyannie on 03/22/2012:
Glad you enjoyed yourselves! Well, of course you have to support the bartender! ;-)

I have to smell baking bread twice a week that I make in the machine for hubby's morning toast! It can be really tough!

V on 03/22/2012:
LOL!! I agree support your bartenders <3

Umpqua on 03/22/2012:
I'm glad ou had a wonderful trip! The weather here is ridiculous, today will be the warmest and it's supposed to hit 83. We have crocus and daffodils should start blooming today or tomorrow. That's pretty early for my area, according to my blog we're 15 days ahead of last year.

supercheese on 03/22/2012:
your trip sounds fabulous!! Ha, sound alike a good idea about the scale! Maybe tape measurements?

sweetpea1977 on 03/22/2012:

No change in the scale. Hmmm... My guess is that I've been watching my calories but haven't been cutting back on carbs. I'm sure that is the problem but it's frustrating when I've been within 1400 calories & exercising every day & no change.

So this morning had just one egg , lunch had soup with 3 wafer type crackers w bp. dinner- will be at a bbq so see what I can eat.

Will go out for a walk this afternoon.

Getting excited about being away for the weekend. See you on Tues.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

V on 03/16/2012:
Have a wonderful time :)

Umpqua on 03/16/2012:
I hope you have a wonderful trip!

grannyannie on 03/16/2012:
Maybe you need to vary calories? Worked for me when I was on a plateau.

moogy on 03/18/2012:
I think that when we eat outside of our home there are a lot more calories in the food we eat than we think or indeed than they own up to:( Maybe it is your 'outside' snacks that is causing the hold up? Just suggesting in lieu of any scientific information:) Hope that you have a good healthy and successful weeek thinkpositive:)

moogy on 03/21/2012:
Hello, I am just dropping by to check up on you. I hope that you are doing well:) I am missing hearing from you:)

My day is going well. Nothing special to report. No change in the scale but didn't toss it out the window as threatened. :)

Breakfast- sunflower toast w pb, lunch was part of a blt sandwich. Stopped in a coffee shop that serves light lunch , a place where they serve salads along with soup & other local foods except for today when the chef didn't show & they offered only 2 sandwiches or lasagna! I would have left but everybody else wanted to stay so I stayed & ate some of the sandwich. Anyway not happy about that. dinner will be a veggie burger and salad. Snacks- watermelon, sugar free choc pudding. Should have no problem finishing up within 1400 calories.

Exercise- going for a walk/jog as soon as I log out.

Have planned our long weekend to Borneo. This isn't exactly on all of the ex pat's list of places to go but I like the idea of going to a  city where we can walk & see museums & shops & then go off to a national park & see some of the culture of the area. Hope we don't run into any headdhunters! just kidding but that is the area of the world that we're going to.

Will check in tomorrow as we don't leave until Sat morning.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

V on 03/15/2012:
Have a safe trip :) RYC although it is nice when friends come to town but it would be nice to get the heads up beforehand! LOL This friend totally understands that although she is on vacation, I still have to work and do my everyday stuff as well :) Thank goodness she gets it..

sweetpea1977 on 03/15/2012:
Wow, that sucks about the chef at the cafe didnt show up. They should have put a notice on the front door, but at the same time that wouldnt get them very much business, would it? :) Great job on handling it though. Good job on food and exercise too!

I cant wait to hear about your upcoming trip!

grannyannie on 03/15/2012:
Meals sound good despite having to eat part of a blt. Enjoy your trip to Borneo. Know very little about it but sounds interesting.

Yesterday was a good day. Did the gym, walked for over an hour and kept food under 1400. My splurge was a Himalayan tea latte at McDonalds, I've become somewhat addicted to it & not sure if they have it elsewhere. I looked for it in the US but didn't see it last time I looked. They sell it at their cafes. Also haven't looked up the calorie value ,estimate it at 300. Have to look it up. Didn't end up eating at home as when I was out it began pouring so I stayed & had carrot soup at a restaurant in the mall.

Today - so far B- eng muff w/lf butter & dab of honey, L- eggwhite & veg wrap at Starbucks, Snack- so far- lowfat choc pudding w dab of cool whip dinner will be salmon w stir fried greens- Shanghai greens , will probably cook some rice for my husband but I'll try to limit my portion.

Exercise - waiting for it to clear a bit before I go out for a walk.

Doing some research on a long weekend trip to Kuching Malaysia. We'll see...

If the scale doesn't show a change tomorow I'm going to have to toss it out the window- which wouldn't be very dramatic because we live on the 1st floor. Soon we'll be moving to the 14th floor & that could raise an eyebrow. Although maybe not here, everybody pretty much keeps their  blinders on & ignores the rest of the world. ( Did that sound cynical? )

grannyannie on 03/14/2012:
Good job! I am missing the sweet mint tea from Morocco. Very nice.

legcramps on 03/14/2012:
LOL, hilarious! Yes, I suppose throwing your scale out the 1st floor window wouldn't cause too much damage!!!

sweetpea1977 on 03/14/2012:
Good job yesterday!

selina on 03/14/2012:
My goal is getting to the gym because once I'm there I end up staying for at least 1 and 1/2 hr (that's how long my daughter's dance classes last)

moogy on 03/14/2012:
Nothing wrong with being cynical! It make nice people and surprises especially enjoyable:) If you are going to throw out the scale better do it on the first floor than the fourteenth, that would definitely get some attention. I have only lived as high as the tenth floor, you will get some great views from up there in the stratosphere:)

You know about the show the Biggest Loser? I'm going to start one called the Slowest Loser. And I think I'll have a good chance of coming in among the top ten!

But I can't just rely on the looking at the scale every day to get good feedback. Yesterday was a positive one- in good control of eating & ended the day within my 1400 calorie goal. Exercise had been a walk/jog for about 30 min.

Today so far- B- egg & sunflower toast w pb, lunch & dinner not planned yet but thinking of a tuna wrap , light on the mayo, dinner is on my own as my husband is teaching a class so have some veg burgers in the freezer and fresh spinach. I have grapes, hummus and carrots for snacks. Time to buy more fruit.

Exercise- just came from the gym & did 25 min on the treadmill & 12 on the elliptical with about 5 min on the upper body weight machine & finished with some stretching.Got up to a 3 min jog with a walk. jog combination. I plan to walk to the post office which is about 40 min walk & then to my choir rehearsal & then home, another 30 min. Of course that all depends on the weather as it's looking cloudy right now.

What I'm hoping for? To see one lb loss by the end of the week. That's not too much to ask if I stay with my plan.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

moogy on 03/12/2012:
Sorry to give you bad news but you have lost four pounds according to the graph on the right and I have only lost two pounds!! Nevermind, it is a good race to lose:) LOL No, one pound is not too much to ask, can you stick to your plan for the week? Yes! Yes!

minty on 03/12/2012:
I'm joining you for the "Slowest Loser" show! :-D Great job on the exercise!

grannyannie on 03/13/2012:
Good menu plan for today and good workout. Hang in there.

I was getting 'really' bored with my exercise routine at home. I love the resistance machines and am looking forward to spinning class. There's one spinning bike in the gym and I'm going to try it out tomorrow.

selina on 03/13/2012:
I think I can surely join you in the slowest loser show, haha! Slowly and surely - hang in there!

V on 03/13/2012:
Just keep at it and thanks for the heads up with the pics! i look forward to checking them out <3

Umpqua on 03/13/2012:
One pound is completely reasonable, you have a good plan in place and that's totally doable. Keep up the good work!

legcramps on 03/13/2012:
Wow, great job!

biscottibody59 on 03/13/2012:
Good going on your activity--slow is better than nothing--you can do this!

RYC: Thank you! I stab in the dark and hit nothing sometimes. I've been here so long (fairly consistently), and there are diarists who have come and gone who STUCK me with this attitude--they're not here to continue to thank, sadly. They've moved on or whatever. I started out with that attitude that failure was the worst thing--at this thing I no longer believe that.

In the long run I've kept off a certain amount of weight with the support of folks like you and everyone else! This is a unique site and I sometimes pinch myself that it's still here.

Hi all-

Enjoyed my day yesterday, walked for about 3 hours total- including going to market, walked to the movie theatre and then walked around the marina. Ended the day with an ice cream- I know weak! but still ended with around 1400 calories.

Today went to church & then later walked to show my husband a Buddhist temple that is in our area but sort  of hidden away. All people in their 70's and older in the temple- hundreds of people & maybe over a thousand- some eating, some praying , lots of incense burning and wonderful buddhas including the reclining buddha. From there walked down to an area of restaurants near the river & split a cookie & had tea . By this time it was raining & we were just waiting for the rain to let up.

So far- sunflower toast w pb, leftover fish with a small piece of potato, 1/2 cookie, yogurt & will have pork & a veg for dinner which my husband is cooking now. No further exercise as I'm tired from the walking yesterday. Trying to stay within the 1400 calorie goal.

Gotta go, dinner is ready!

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 03/11/2012:
Sounds like a good day to me! I'd love to visit that temple!

My blog with a link to the photo albums in it: http://morocco60.blogspot.com/ I was only ill for about a day and a half. But my hubby is still somewhat ill. Need to make him go to doc.

V on 03/11/2012:
Hey did you take pics?? If so I would LOVE to see them :)

Umpqua on 03/11/2012:

What a wondeful day! When my husband and I were together we would often go places and walk and enjoy views and entertainments, treasured memories:) Love a woman with a goal and 1400 is sensible and doable:) Thank you for your support, I am working on a solution!! or at least a fall back position:)

Almost forgot- in case anyone is interested in pictures of my trip to India- not many because it's hard to take photos from a moving bus!

Well, still not able to post a loss but I am thinpositive and ( whoops notice how I forgot the k :)  ) will work hard to make tht happen this week.

Yesterday finished up well- no wine which is a positive for me & although  I can lose while having a glass of wine, it's more difficult-, didn't over eat the pork dinner- which was a selfish act as I realized we could have it for dinner tonight- and the only indulgence for the day was 2 handfuls of nuts & the 1/2 cookie. So still around 1400.

Today, sunflower toast w/pb, 1/2 grapefruit, lunch will be more of the leftover fish, dinner- the pork from last night & spinach, planned snack- yogurt and grapes.

I just returned from a walk & part jog- about 5 min of jogging which felt good & I found out that if I stop about twice to do some stretching there is no knee pain. One positive thing here about exercise is that people are pretty accepting of stretching, jogging, no matter what age, and all forms of exercise in public. The area where I walk has a few exercise stations for upper body, a couple of bikes, step machines- I tried a few out today. I could sustain a jog for about 2 minutes, maybe I can make three this week.

So goals for the week- to update here in DD every day, stick with the 1400 calories, to try to limit carbs , to exercise at least 30 min each day with some stretching & weights.

Have a great day!

Happy Saturday-

Started the day by going to  the local wet market, a fruit, veg, meat, fish market that sets up & is taken down each day & washed down- hence the term wet market. Bought some snapper for dinner, pork tenderloin & my husband bought 2 green mangoes for a salad. I bought a beautiful bouquet of flowers for about 1/3 of what I would pay in the super market or floral shop & had the fun of putting it together myself. Also walked there for a litle exercise.

Yesterday turned out pretty well, calorie -wise & stuck to the 1400 calories & did my walk/jog but no change on the scale today. I think I need to pay extra attention to my carbs.

I'm thinking of walking up to a movie theatre today as my husband needs to get some work done.I'm on a movie kick- last night saw Hugo, last week The Artist and would like to see Iron lady before it disappears from the theatres.

Tonight will go to a light display around the Marina. We went last year & were just astounded at the talent- didin't know that light dispays could be an art form.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for all of the helpful comments. I think for me I just have to put in the work- being more consistent , not having one good day & then 2 not so good days, more vigorous exercise. I said here that i do know how to lose weight, it's just whether i feel motivated enough to be able to do it. I'm having conversations with myself about it. :)

So yesterday was a good day- B- eng muff w pb, L- tuna sand, d- shrimp w tampenade, small serving rice, spinach, snacks- 1 glass wine, carrot, grapes, yogurt. Just about or just below 1400

Exercise- golf & swimming

Today- B- sunflower toast w/ butter, lunch- turkey wrap w/ cranberry sauce ( right after I finish updating) dinner- TBA will be out at a restaurant before seeing a movie ( Hugo in 3-D)

Just went out for a jog /walk - probably jogged 5 min out of the 35-40 min which was good for me but not for my knees. Still taking time off from the eliptical.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

moogy on 03/08/2012:
Yep, 1 good 2 bad, story of my life as well!! The princess is six as well she turns seven next Jan but is already letting everyone know what she will need for her birthday!!!! Looks like you are stringing two days in a row here, hang in there!! Missed you as well, lovely to see your name on my list:)

sweetpea1977 on 03/09/2012:
I have been where you been, even the whole conversations to myself thing! :)

Some days, it takes a lot of effort just to force myself to exercise. It was hard for me to get out of my warm cozy bed this morning, but after I got started on my workout, I was so glad I made that decision. And now that Im done I feel a huge sense of accomplishment, which is very important to me as a SAHM.

The key to success is finding an activity that you love and look forward to each day. For me, thats doing something outside like walking, hiking, or running or going to the gym to work with my trainer (he pushes me to the max and Im always super-proud of myself when Im done) or zoning out to my music doing HIIT on the elliptical for an hour. And of course, I finally found my at-home workout - P90X. This is the first dvd workout I've been excited to stick with for its entirety. In fact, Im considering on doing two more rounds after I finish this one!

Anyway, my point is once you find something that you love, go for it and give it your all! It is good for the body, mind, and soul!!

V on 03/09/2012:
Good looking menu :) Have a wonderful day my friend <3

liza36 on 03/09/2012:
The brand of shoes I got is Asics. I'm loving them so far. The lady at the store did say that running shoes were good for cross training, since I'm not a runner. There are less expensive Asics out there and you may not have to go to a specific running store for them.

Have a good weekend.

I wish I could post something postive but just being here is a postive thing for me. When I'm here I am more aware of what my goals are.

Today- muesli w lf milk for breakfast, cheese melted on wrap for lunch, lean pork & veg stir fry, snacks, rice cakes w/ pb, yogurt, one glass wine.

No exercise today, yesterday fast walk, no running it was hot!, tomorrow will be golf

I think I'm kind of stuck at this weight- not that I won't be able to get below it , but my eating & exercise seem to be keeping me  here at this weight. Need to reevaluate . Hard!

Thanks for the advice on my toe/ feet problems. I will be shoppping for new shoes. I think my shoes may be 1/2 size too large & that my also be part of the problem.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 03/07/2012:
that stir fry sounds so good!! I need to make some soon!

As for your plateau, your foods sound fine, though Im not sure of the total calorie intake. Are you tracking them? You might not eating the appropriate amount for your activity level. The more you move, the more you can eat! I'd definitely look into adding more variety to your weekly exercise routine. You may want to consider adding in one or two HIIT workouts each week (on non-consecutive days) as well as some light weightlifting/resistance training twice per week (on non-consecutive days) to get your metabolism back up.

V on 03/07/2012:
Hey as long as you are putting forth effort, that is positive :) Perhaps writing down your health goals and post them somewhere you can see them every day will help on the days you can't post here and ThinkPostive ;) Have a good day!!

Umpqua on 03/07/2012:
Good advice above. Your foods also look good to me so it could be a calorie issue, either too many or too few. Good luck on the shoe shopping!

Maria7 on 03/07/2012:
You know, when you've lost weight, your shoe size gets smaller, too. (I wear a smaller size.) As for stuck at your weight, I know how that feels...oh well...we just do the best we can. Hope you have a good day. :-)

hollybelle on 03/07/2012:
I so relate to what you are saying here. I stayed around the same weight for a long time. I am about 10 lbs lighter right now. It wasn't a fast lost - and I still want to lose at least 10 more lbs, but I got here by turning down stuff I knew I should not eat at least MOST of the time and doing only half-hearted exercise most days. I don't know about you, but I tend to be a real gung-ho type and find it hard to settle for anything except a full-out workout. In reality that is very hard to maintain for many and truthfully we just need to do "something" a little bit each day to improve. So I've started thinking smaller and at least I am achieving the small goals - which is better than none.

newme24 on 03/07/2012:
Hi! Totally agree with everything said above! I actually just increased my calorie in-take a bit because I wasn't eating enough. Maybe increase a little (just be sure to weigh your food) and give it a week or two, then drop it back down again? I always try to keep my body guessing. You're really doing great. Keep it up!

liza36 on 03/07/2012:
I understand all too well about being stuck. I know you'll figure it out and get to where you want to be!

biscottibody59 on 03/07/2012:
Oh to answer your question from the other day, the date is just a Tuesday, which is my usual weigh-in day--there's no significance to it.

Keep on keepin' on--happy shoe shopping! I'd be sunk without decent shoes--I NEVER scrimp on shoes. Not good for the pocketbook, but I've tried the alternative--not good for my bod:-)
