Good afternoon-

My husband is home - I left Singapore on June 6 so that's a long time for us to be apart.

Just returned from Zumba which was good but a bit boring this time. The teacher is constantly adding new songs which is nice but maybe it was just the combination that seemed a bit flat. Anyway good exercise.

Had a good day yesterday , food wise. Even bought a can of mixed nuts for my husband & took exactly 3 nuts & didn't go back for more. ( Of course I think I should lose weight just because I make good decisions!- Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. )

Tonight we're meeting friends out for dinner & drinks. Not sure what will be on the menu. I will look to see if their menu is online. There will be many dinners out as we get together with friends. Which means challenges for me.

Hope everyone has a super weekend.

Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

Great job by having only 3 nuts! I admire your determination! Good for you! Hope you have a great dinner and time w/friends tonight!

Do you go out to West Hartford? There are SO many good restaurants there now. If we lived closer we would be going out to eat a lot more often, so I'm kind of glad we don't live closer ;) Hope you had a nice dinner!

Good Morning-

I didn't exactly follow yesterday's plan . Exercise turned out to be house cleaning & a swim and food was - well I'll call it grazing. Lunch was 2 Wasa crackers with peanut butter & dinner was a sweet potato & string cheese . Snacks were blueberries, greek yogurt , a gin & tonic &  glass of wine. Oh well, I'll try to get a little more balanced today.

I'm definitely going for a walk this morning with a neighbor. Dinner will be swordfish, corn , tomato with fresh mozzarella. My husband returns today so I want to make a nice meal. I'll have to be making some adjustments in meal planning with him in mind but still maintining my calorie quotas.I'll have to see how this goes. I've had limited food in the house & been able to make food for me alone so I'll need to be vigilant & not get into any bad patterns.

Help me out with this & keep me honest!

As always I apprecaite your support. This is the best that I have done in my past memory on my own with DD support.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning-

A beautiful day here- sunny with low humidity. A good day for a morning walk.

Had a decent day yesterday. Lunch at Cheesecake Factory was a lunch size Chinese salad that their nutritional site listed as 540 calories. Seemed like more than that to me & I left 1/4 of it on my plate. Also didn't touch the bread on the table- which from past experience was very good. But then was so hungry in the afternoon and evening. I went over my 1400 calories but it wasn't too bad.No change in weight from my posted weight- yesterdays lower weight was just a tease I guess.

Exercise was about 20 min on the treadmill & about 20min.  walk around town before & after lunch.

Should be a good day. The roofers are gone so I have my privacy back but stil a few issues to resolve. Didn't realize what a huge project this was going into it & would have waited for my husband to return but wanted to get it done so he would be able to enjoy his time here. Will do some housework after my walk and this afternoon picking up a friend & going to see an art show.

Meal plans for the day-Breakfast- egg and pump toast w/ p. b., Salad with chicken for lunch, Talapia and ear of corn for dinner & yogurt & peach for snacks.

Hope you all have a sparkling day!

Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

Hi all-

Just a short entry-

This morning I picked up my two 5 lb weights and my first thought was - these are really heavy & then realized that I've lost more than 10 lbs. I know that my knees , ankles and feet appreciate not carrying that weight. Good incentive for me !

Yesterday was good- 40 min on the treadmill & really gave myself a good workout on the incline & varied the speed. Food was good but a little boring- except I did love the 80 calorie pumpernickle wrap with turkey & cranberry sauce. Scale was down by a bit today but will see what tomorrow brings.

Today I'm going to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. I think I need to look on line at their menu before I go so that I know how many calories I'm ordering. I'm not really a cheesecake person so no problem there but some of their salads are probably high calorie.

Ok roof problems to solve.

Have a good day!

Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

V on 07/26/2011:
Good luck today and good idea to check online first..They have the highest calorie salads out there..Don't alarm yourself when you take a look on line...It is more than okay to request a special order..As you know the salads are made to order, so you can"hold" items and get the dressing on the side...Hey where did you find the pumpernickle wrap??? I hope to find it at the groceries... Anyways have a good day :)

Umpqua on 07/26/2011:
That wrap sounds wonderful. Good idea checking online first, I did that for Olive Garden. And they actually have "low calorie" options and I went with something not marked low cal after looking at all the fat, sodium, etc in everything. You really have to scrutinize because some of the stuff these restaurants tout as healthy isn't all that!

sweetpea1977 on 07/26/2011:
Yea, my quote was aimed at folks who constantly complain about everything (not just weightloss issues) but never seem to do anything about it. Seriously, if you have that much time to moan and groan about something, you definitely have time to come up with a plan to solve the issue that is bothering you!

Mmm, that wrap sounds so good - very Thanksgivingish! I LOVE pumpernickel. Where did you find the wrap?

Anyway, good luck with finding a healthy salad. I'd do a special order like V suggessted - replace creamy dressings with a vinaigrette on the side, hold the croutons and bacon bits, ask for cheese on the side, and make sure any meat you put on it is grilled.

V on 07/26/2011:
LOL!! Thanks ans you must read my Bio page..No I am not planning to go anywhere when I finally get the opportunity to make a living doing what I love...I love doing research as far as workouts, food and nutrition is concerned..

tangalyn on 07/26/2011:
i have never in my life been to a cheesecake factory, but i hear such amazing things! hope you enjoy urself.. also id like to add that is a GREAT way of looking at things, through the weights.. i can barely even lift the weight i have lost in weight form.. i cannot believe i had all that extra on my body, that disgusts me! i can only imagine how wonderful i will feel once it is all gone for good :) hope u have a great day! <3

shaunnac on 07/26/2011:
I am a little overworked, but it deffinatly beats the other option of not working. I know I gripe a lot about work but I would hold everything in and eat as a way of a relief so I am trying to not do that anymore. That wrap sounds so good. Ways to stay away from calories dressings are a no no. Also cheeses can sometimes sneak in extra calories. Stick with if it didn't come from a tree or vine to push it to the side. Have a wonderful day

liza36 on 07/26/2011:
I love Cheesecake Factory, but their portions are huge, and even their "weight management" salads can be high in calories. V made a good suggestion to special order.

Have a good time!

moogy on 07/26/2011:
Nice to be able to lift the weights and realize that you have already done your body a favour with the weight you have already lost!! Yay! for that. You sound like a woman with a plan and I love that. I hope you had a great day:)

Hi all-

Doing okay today. Had a low key weekend. Quiet except for the constant banging on my roof as I'm having a new roof put on. Most of the work should be completed in the next couple of days. Can't wait for it to be over & to have my yard cleaned up.

I'm doing fine with eating and exercise. Mostly I've been walking about 45 min with some decent hills part of the walk. Yesterday was a potluck dinner and I did well with my selections- small portions of a few dishes with salads taking up the rest of the plate. I even sampled a couple of desserts.

Posted a loss and now down into the 170's. I would be more excited if I hadn't posted this weight once before & then had to repost back to teh 180's. So I'll get on the treadmill or walk this afternoon depending on the weather.Think positive , right?!

I'm thinking that I could be at 175 by Sept 1 when I'll be returning to Singapore. That is a great goal for me.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week!

Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

greengirl on 07/25/2011:
This time you wont be seeing the 180s again !! Good idea to aim for a small target. I would be thrilled for a loss of half a pound to a pound a week if it was consistent :-)

Sounds like you have a good reason to keep on track so as not to sneak back into those 180's. I am sure you can reach your goal for returning to Singapore. Hope the banging stops soon, that's no fun!!! Thank you for the kind words:)

Hi all-

Ok- lost the 1/2 lb & down to my posted weight. Now to get below 180  which I hope to see by the end of next week.

This morning got out early for a  walk. So nice to be able to walk through beautiful countryside, through fields and while it was still bearable to be out in the heat. Then went for a swim. Nice way to start the day. Met a friend for breakfast - which was my lunch as i had breakfast early this morning. Went to Cosi's & had a veg. quiche- not sure about calories but it was healthy.

Have a dr. appt this afternoon & may go to a movie later.

Have a great day.

I had overnight guests and served them what I had planned to serve myself. I didn't buy alot of extra snacks or a special dessert and it was just fine. Breakfast was fruit, cereal and eng. muffins which I will eat at some point. In the past I would have bought some high calorie muffins .

Went for a long walk yesterday before it got hot and today will spend some time on the treadmill.

Still over my posted wieght by 1/2 lb and hope to see some change by the weekend.

Addition to my post**  Family members noticed my weight loss!! That was nice to hear!

Hi DD friends,

I'm back from MN where it was extremely hot & humid . I had a great visit with my 91 year old mother who is still sharp and active. Also had good family time with 2 brothers, my sister & my brother's  family.

As we were sitting around with an assortment of snacks we were all talking about carbs, fat & calories . We laughed at ourselves as it didn't prevent us from snacking.

All in all though I kept things in check. I didn't track my calories but mentally was estimating. With the weather I was lucky to get in one long walk. So am up by 1/2 lb which I won't post because I'm hoping to see that disappear within a day or 2.

Did have an odd episode of feeling very dizzy & had to lie flat or would vomit when I stood up. Could be an inner ear kind of thing. It happens to some of my family members. My sister has had it happen to her & she said that at the last minute she decided to pack the medication for her trip to MN. Glad she did as it did the trick for me.

Back to reality as I'm having a new roof put on my house so it will be a noisy week as they tear off the old shingles & install new ones. Hoping to have most of it done before my husband returns on the 28th.

Interesting article in the NY Times yesterday in Personal Health by jane Brody about weight loss plans. Mostly about weight creeping up over the years , the role of exercise, and people choosing the wrong foods. Pretty much things that we know .It was based on research on 120,877 people who were follwed for 12-20 years. I did like the part about there being no significant effect of having one glass of wine a day!

I'll have time later to read your entries.

Have a good day!

Hi to all DD friends,

Good morning. Good news and bad news.

Well good news is that I got on the treadmill for 45 min yesterday. Which is good for me as I usually get either totally bored or just tired after 20-30 min. And I pushed it up a notch to burn 400 calories in that time. Used the treadmill instead of taking a walk as it was Singapore hot here yesterday.

Bad news is that I have to repost my weight up a lb which just kills me but after being down to 179 for 2 days , my weight went up. My only thought is that my exercise wasn't as good as before. Calorie wise I've been pretty good but had a day of about 1800.

So not the end of the world obviously, and I'm at my goal of 180 by this date. I'm a little worried as I'm off to visit my brother & family & mother in MN on Sat. Which means being around food & family so I have to be prepared. My mother is in an assisted living home & my brother & sister in law are in super shape so I should be fine but the history is that when I go there we have lots of snacks and wine. I can always contribute some low cal snacks. OK I solved that problem :)

Off to play golf with a friend.

Have a great day!

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 20 lbs to go!

V on 07/13/2011:
It is so not the end of the world :) Maybe it is just water weight, who knows...Have fun playing golf today :)

moogy on 07/13/2011:
It really does sound as if it is water retention, you have been so good with your exercise and food. I mean you can't put on weight if you are not putting it in your mouth. Your visit to family sounds lovely and if they are in good shape the food shouldn't be too bad and taking some really healthy snacks is a great idea. I hope that you had a good round of golf:)

sweetpea1977 on 07/13/2011:
Its probably just a temporary upward flux. Our bodies are in a constant battle to find homeostasis. Just keep plugging away with good food choices and exercise and you will prevail. :)

h82bfat on 07/14/2011:
I get bored on my elliptical sometimes too, which is why I like being outside whenever possible. But sometimes that's just not possible, so to combat that boredom I try to imagine that I'm somewhere else & no matter where I'm imagining I'm at - I'm THIN & I'm feeling THIN!! When possible, I put on a concert video (just so I have something to focus on) while I still listen to my ipod & I imagine that I'm there, I'm young, I'm in shape & I'm feeling it... When that doesn't work, I sometimes imagine that I'm back in bootcamp & my DI is yelling at me to keep going. However, I still have my days where NONE of that works & I'm just me trying to "do my time". ;c)

Maria7 on 07/14/2011:
Hope you have a good visit with your family. :-)

Hi all-

Not a lot to report. Haven't been perfect in my eating & the scale went back up a bit & then down the next day. Water retention?? Don't know.

Spent 5 hours in the car traveling to see family yesterday which didn't leave much time for exercise & the day before I think I was just  zoning out. Today took a long walk & did some swimming. Would like to do some aqua aerobics in my pool- if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful. My goal this week is to get 45 min of exercise everyday.

Oh & to drink more water. I'm going to start loggin my water.

A wonderful week to you all!

moogy on 07/11/2011:
Glad to read that you are maintaining your weight and sitting in the car for that long wouldn't have helped. I hope that you are able to find the time to fit in your desired exercise each day. That would get the scale moving down, I am sure. Have a great week yourelf:)

hollybelle on 07/12/2011:
Do the pool exercises and go for as many walks as you can.....if you have your laptop with you - look up aqua fitness online and see if it gives you some pool exercise ideas. Do you swim? e

just42day on 07/12/2011:
Great job in setting weekly goals for yourself! Enjoy the water!

Umpqua on 07/12/2011:
I do mini laps in my pool (it's small) so I'm not sure what to say about the aqua aerobics. I know my MIL does them so I can ask her. Have a good one!

h82bfat on 07/12/2011:
Good job on the walk & swimming. I personally am not a water person so when I'm in a pool I just hand on the the side & tread water or walk back & forth across the pool as quickly as I can. Not high tech, but when I really apply myself my legs get weary, which to me, is a good thing.

biscottibody59 on 07/12/2011:
Riding in the car burns some calories--I used to count my driving in all my calculations when that was all I did that day:-)

ps thanks for your concern--I'm optimistic about this. not really my style, but it's free I suppose:-)
