Hi all DD friends,

Friday-   Breakfast- muesli w/ milk ( ran out of my skim) , lunch- Bento box lunch out with some tempura, sashimi, grilled mackerel, tofu that I didn't eat!, other various taste treats- hard to figure the calories , dinner salad w/chicken & sunflower seed bread. all good until I hit the snacks- too many almonds, glass of sugar soda,( that was stupid- thought it was a low cal soda), scoop of ice cream. Thinking that I hit around 2000 calories. Not happy with that total.

Exercise- didn't make it to the gym but took a brisk hour walk.

I did read somewhere that we should have an indulgence at some point in the week . So the ice cream was mine. It was very good & worth it. Although I would probably say I take a bit of liberty there as tonight I'm going out to a nice dinner- wearing my black dress- notice I didn't say little black dress as it's a size 16W. But will have a glass of wine with hopefully a healthy meal.

I have to be more diligent about weighing & measuring. Will be extra careful today before going out tonight so I can indulge a bit at dinner.

Enjoying reading your daily logs. The DD group is diverse in many ways but united in our goal of eating healthy and ultimately losing weight so there are many common threads in our stories.

A great weekend to all. Memorial Day is not a holiday where I live but will try to celebrate by grilling  something & think patriotic  thoughts!

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

Yes, a planned treat is essential is my book in order to sustain a weight loss program. You had really delicious food apart from the slip ups. I hope you have a great weekend:)

Hi!

Ok- just because the cookies are 3 for $2. doesn't mean that I had to buy three & then eat them. Oh well, they were Chinese cookies which have little sugar in them with some kind of bean paste in the middle & also they counted for lunch calories.

This was one of those days where there is no plan past breakfast but in the end it won't be a disaster. Was out during the day touring around with a group & we had only a few minutes to stop to pick up something to eat & the cookies were cute- in the shape of a fish & they called my name. Had watermelon juice with them which was healthy. Oh well I walked my feet off which was my exercise for the day.

I am now exhausted and too tired to cook dinner so will call my husband to pick up something for dinner.

Speaking of exhausted I stopped at the Dr.'s office yesterday because I have been extremely tired, like wanting to nap as early as 10 am. So he took some blood & a urine sample. I'm guessing that I need some iron or B vitamins but I'll wait to see what the tests show. Not worried about it. Had to step on the scale in his office which always is painful.Nice digital scale though!

OK going to put my feet up & watch Oprah which is on here at 6 pm- old shows but current season.

Progress as of today: 2.5 lbs lost so far, only 28.5 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/26/2011:
Oh I know those cookies, a former Chinese co-worker used to bring them into the office. Have a good day/evening!

V on 05/26/2011:
Have a good one girlie ;)

~Moody~ on 05/26/2011:
Don't think I've ever had Chinese cookies...but I know the feeling of buying cookies just cuz of the price. Subway has the best chocolate chip cookies ever..I actually crave them from time to time..

Hope the blood/urine results are all good~just something that like you said, Vitamin B or increase in iron will take care of..Keep us posted.

Have a great day!!

Em17 on 05/26/2011:
Yummy cookies

hollybelle on 05/26/2011:
I love bean paste anything! I have done the same thing - bought sweets (especially) just because they were " a good deal "! Well, they aren't a good deal when we tally up the calories sometimes, though, are they?? LOL!! Seriously I don't think you did much harm with those, you got back on track the rest of the day. Watermelon juice sounds wonderful. I've never seen it.

moogy on 05/27/2011:
Red bean paste is the stuff inside the cookies and buns they make. I have some in my pantry! Sounds like you are missing something in your diet, maybe just iron! I hope you have a great weekend and get to do enjoyable things:)

Hi all DD friends-

Hey, not so bad for post cruise weight- I am down 1/2 lb from last weigh in. Good thing the cruise was only 3 days!

Did great yesterday with food & exercise. Well, great for me anyway. My exercise pales in comparison to many of you on DD. Wow, I'm totally impressed with some of the exercise that many of you do on a daily basis. For me if I exercise for 45 min in the gym & then go for a 45 min walk I think I'm doing well!  I know I could push myself a bit more & I probably would see more results.( Also have to consider that I am way older than most DD.)Well, have to think about  the exercise piece. I am trying to change the speed on the ellipt. & the bike. Other thoughts are appreciatd!

And yes I would like to be losing more per week but at least I am losing and hopefully ( yes, I will!) will stick with it this time. I am not in any way feeling that I am depriving myself. Sure , I might feel like stopping at the mall for that frozen yogurt or some other treat but I am seriously happy with  having fruit & low fat yogurt for a treat. Occasioally I actualy feel a bit hungry. Wow , what an amazing feeling & I can actually love with a bit of a hungry feeling .

My plan for today is to go to the gym for 45 min including ellipt. & bike & maybe add a little treadmill to the mix and then an afternoon or evening walk depending on temp/humidity/rain factor.

Meals-  Breakfast- egg w/ 1/2 eng muff & l.f. spread

Plans for lunch- salad greens with tuna &l.f. dressing & grapes   dinner- fish & a vegetable- still in planning phase.

Hoping you all have a good day. I am in SE Asia so on a different schedule than most.

Your comments are really helpful & appreciated. I'm trying to be better about reading your posts.

hollybelle on 05/24/2011:
Well, as another older" DDer (56), I think you are doing great if you are exercising 1.5 hours in a day. I don't know that you should step it up more right away or not. You don't want to burn out or risk injury. Do what makes you happy. I know I have to be sure it's fun, convenient and reasonable or I won't stick with it. I bicycle, walk, elliptical and Turbo Jam dvds, Zumba life some weights and work in the yard. So lots of variety. If you are not wearing yourself out - add more - grandually, but be reasonable for the aforementioned reasons! Welcome back.

V on 05/24/2011:
Thank YOU!! I must say that as long as you are moving, it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing, I think you are doing great!!!

shaunnac on 05/24/2011:
just stick with it. everyone is different. mmmm your food sounds so good. I love seeing what healthy choices everyone is making

h82bfat on 05/25/2011:
Sounds like you're getting a pretty good workout to me. Keep your exercise at a level that you actually enjoy it. If you don't actually ENJOY it, at least keep it at a level where you don't dread it. Then, just find other activities that you like that can be incorporated into your routine. I've recently discovered Wii Boxing.. I sweat like there's no tomorrow, yet it's easy on my old arthritic joints. Oh - And great job loosing ANYTHING while on a cruise!!

moogy on 05/25/2011:
OH, good for you, cruise and still lost half a pound, good for you, that's terrific. My exercise consists of running up and down the stairs several times a day at the moment. Don't compare yourself to other's, just do what feel right for you. You are doing really well and should be proud of your achievements.:)

Hi diet diary friends-

OK the cruise is over- back to my plan. I did follow many of the hints from fellow DD's on the cruise. I walked, used the gym, tried to eat mostly healthy foods. What worked best at lunch was to fill the plate with salad greens & then there was little room for anything else. Also had room service for breakfast which was helpful. Dinner was another story... Went a bit over board with the wine, the rolls, & a couple of deserts.

But now back to writing down my food & exercise. I'll wait a day to get back on the scale & hope that I didn't gain. This week should be easy to control my eating. Only one dinner out in the schedule. So I'll go to the gym in the morning and walk in the afternoon or evening.

Hope everyone is doing well. Seriously the DD is keeping me motivated . My history was very spotty in sticking to any one plan. I would go to WW & then if I had a couple of bad weeks, I'd stop going. Or if I was trying to lose on my own I would probably have stopped or taken a really long break after the cruise. Usually I diet for a particular occasion- wedding, reunion, etc. This time I'm just trying to lose for myself- for my health, for my future.

Today's plan:

breakfast- muesli w/ sk. milk, lunch- salad greens with tuna & lf. dressing, grapes  dinner- chicken stir fry w/ rice

snacks- yogurt w/ all fruit jam, grapes

exercise- ellipt 20 min, bike-20, some weights & stretching    afternoon- 45 min walk

~Moody~ on 05/23/2011:
Welcome back from your cruise!! It must've been amazing! Sounds like you did well with your choices for the most part and certainly got lots of activity in!!

Hope you have a great night!

mysterywoman100 on 05/23/2011:
glad you had fun and I know what you mean about DD helping and keeping us on track.

shaunnac on 05/23/2011:
Welcome back! I know what you mean, I have a friend at work doing the diet plan, and my neighbor doing the exercise plan. But ya'll gals I feel know where I am coming from by doing both. If you gained a little weight on the cruise it's ok the average person gains 8 pounds on one. Just know we are here to get you back on track and besides you deserved it!

hollybelle on 05/24/2011:
There are several people here who have had the "after vacation blues" doesn't sound like you are one of them. Welcome back and thanks for the breathe right strips suggestion - sounds like the voice of experience.

V on 05/24/2011:
Welcome back and great job!!! It looks like you are right back at it so no worries!!!

Umpqua on 05/24/2011:
You have a great attitude and it sounds like you did well on the cruise considering all the temptations on them (so I've heard!) Have a good one!

h82bfat on 05/24/2011:
Sounds like you are already refocussed & that's puts you ahead of the game! Don't worry about what you ate on the cruise - that's ancient history. What matters is TODAY!

YellowDress on 05/24/2011:
Yes! The best approach is doing this just for ourselves! Sometimes i say myself,"Is wedding the only reason to lose weight?" Definietly not.. Keep up the good work!

loveray on 05/24/2011:
i totally understand going a bit overboard on vacation, but thats what they are for! i went to an all inclusive resort recently and i really had to limit myself with all of the endless buffets and complimentary drinks, etc. oy vey! sounds like you are doing just great and you are aware that you want to get back on track.

moogy on 05/24/2011:
I am with you, if it wasn't for my team of women that come to my diary I would be lost. Sounds like you did really well on the cruise, good luck with the scale. However, you don't go on a cruise regularly so a little gain is perfectly acceptable. You are back on the straight and narrow now so that's great.:)

I guess I haven't posted in a few days- kind of got away from me. I have been writing down my food just haven't sat down to enter here.

Right after I patted myself on the back about avoiding wine I ended up having 2 glasses on Sunday night! Which is OK- just thought it was funny. It was a celebration & an eveing out.

Still staying with about 1400-1700 calories a day.Would like to cut back by a little, but haven't figured that out yet.  Portion control is now my focus and weighing my food.

Challenges- I'm going to a potluck lunch today & a potluck dinner tomorrow. But my biggest challenge will be tha I'm going on a 3 night cruise on Friday. Yow!! I'm just thinking fish, fruit & vegetables. Can I brainwash myself between now & then??  Any ideas would be welcomed!

Exercise- yesterday a long hike, Monday a short time in the gym & a walk, Sunday walking. Today- hitting the gym as soon as I log off.

Try to post more often ! Thank you for all of your encouragement!

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 29 lbs to go!

shaunnac on 05/17/2011:
I would say give yourself one day of indulgance on the cruise and spend the next two days walking every inch of that ship and swimming and I am sure they have a gym. LOL maybe record I will ONLY eat fish fruit and veggies and play it at night from now till then? You can do it I have faith in you!

V on 05/17/2011:
Okay you can do this two ways and both include staying within your calorie intake...For me resisting wine especially in a vacation setting is a bit impossible so I would count my wine calories into my daily intake...For each glass make sure to match it with as much water as you can....If the tempting foods are your weakness the indulge and try not to go overboard with the intake...If it is a buffet style dinner, use a saucer for the higher calories and use the bigger plate for fresh fruits and veggies...I guess what i am saying is pick your battles wisely, i am sure you can eyeball portions...This can be done successfully so try not to overthink it!!! Have a good one :)

~Moody~ on 05/17/2011:
Wowee on the cruise!! My advice is to enjoy the foods, make more good choices than bad ones..and try to stay active. Walk, swim..burn calories while having fun yanno? Enjoy the goodies here n there...relax and soak up sun too..It's all about balance...That's my motto!

waydesmommy on 05/18/2011:
You could try to fill up on salad first if there is any. That's my only idea.

I find the weekends the most challenging. Others, too?

Sat.- Had the usual calories for breakfast , lunch & also a salad with chicken for dinner. May have had one extra slice ( baguette) of bread with butter. Had a glass of wine in the evening when we were out.

Decided to eat in instead of going out for dinner. It's hard for me to limit my dining out calories to what I should eat. I know how to do it- eat half of the entree, no bread, dressing on the side, etc., but sometimes in a social situation I conveniently forget all of those  suggestions. So ate in last evening.

Quite proud of myself that I have limited my wine to an occasional glass. For a few years I have been having a glass or two a night. Just became a habit. So I'm happy to say that I have broken that habit & don't miss it.

Another insight for me- I was at the market looking at raspberries which I just love but were pricey. I was about to walk by & not buy them & then thought- hey I wouldn't  flinch at a high price for Ben & Jerry's ice cream so why should I deny myself these nice fresh berries. So i bought some & blueberries too!

Didn't go to the gym on Sat. & probably won't today but walked - afternoon- 30 min brisk walk & then 20 evening walk. Oh & played golf  ( 9 holes) in the morning. I don't want to hate the gym so may go 3-4 days a week & walk other day.

I could cut my calories down but don't want to feel too deprived. So may keep doing what I'm doing for a while( somewhere between 1400-1600) & see if I can lose 1 lb a week which I think is healthy for me in the long run. I tired of dieting, losing 10 lbs & then regaining it plus a few extra.  Hope I can remember this in the cooming weeks & months.

Thanks for the comments, diet diary friends, and for the tip on finding tofu, Moogy!

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 29 lbs to go!

moogy on 05/14/2011:
I think that you are doing wonderfully not only in the weight loss area but also in the breaking of old habits and recognising good new ones. Have a great week and you are welcome thinkpositive:)

ShaunnaC on 05/14/2011:
I am glad you got the berries. A much needed treat and they sound so yummy I can't wait for the Peaches and Blueberry's to go into full season here. Nothing better than getting some extra walking while picking farm fresh produce, right? I work in a liquor store, so I understand all to well about the habit of a glass of wine a day. I have cut back to the occasional glass as well and even then only half of a glass. LOL that was my preprep stage while I was gathering recipies and so forth

moogy on 05/16/2011:
LOL, I am glad that you found it, yes, ours is always in strange out of the way places. I think you may be onto something with the thinking about eating. I have found that I don't think about food much at all anymore. Could be because I am not as hungry or have the drive (appetite) to eat because I am eating more filling and healthy foods. Whatever, it is working so I will go with the flow:)

YellowDress on 05/16/2011:
Great choice about berries! Yes,weekends are also hard for me (as yesterday),maybe there are more challenges around such as family dinner, sunday brunch or maybe wekkend awards!! :)Congrats for your good work! I'm happy with any loss so let the weight loss begin! Trying to think positive & all.

A good day. Exercise-  am.45 min in gym - 27 min on ellipt, some upper weights, stretching. pm- a brisk 45 min walk after dinner.

Meals- Breakfast- egg, 1/2 eng muff/w lf spread. Lunch- greens with 100 gr of low fat hamw/ lf dressing, watemelon,  Dinner- chicken stir fry & about 1/2 c wh rice. Snacks- 4 rice cakes w/ lf spread & apricot jam.  About 1400 -1500 calories with one snack to go for the evening.

Someone wondered about weighing & measuring food which I am not great about. I figure that I've done this so many times that I can" eyeball"  4 oz or 1/2 cup etc. AND the excuse that I haven't purchased a scale in this home. I do think that I should be better about this & now that my golf partner has canceled for tomorrow I think I'll go out tomorrow & get a good food scale.

And thanks for the reminder that muscle weighs more than fat!

I do feel good, have alot more energy and not falling asleep in the afternoon so I'm happy with myself. Trying to drink more water too.

Does anyone get Dr. Gourmet online newsletters? I really like him- gives realistic advice, good recipes.

Still at same weight. I have dieted many times in my life- eating about the same & exercising maybe less than I have been recently & in the past would have lost at least a few lbs by now. So- although still thinking postiive! am somewhat upset not to see more of a loss.

Tues.

Breakfast- egg, 1/2 eng muff & 1/2 banana Lunch- fruit platter, dinner- leftover fish  snacks- to be determined.

Didn't get to the gym today & may get out for a walk this evening.

Feeling good about my food choices & for the most part my exercise.

Thanks for all the comments diet diary friends!

WOW, great exercise! And yes, think positive - you're gaining muscles, and muscles are heavier than fat, so you should try and get yourself measured around in inches - I bet there you'd be able to see amazing results. How about clothes? Don't you keep some "future" clothes in the wardrobe you can try on?

Em17 on 05/10/2011:
Think positive =) thats why it is you. I have done that before Kathy get a size lower than what I am and lose weight and THEN THEY FIT =)

KathyBlue on 05/10/2011:
I have a good thing called "VIP membership" to the university sports complex. It has an olympic pool, 2 gyms, tennis, martial arts, group activities (basketball, handball, football, etc.), golf... and I can participate in any class anytime - except for tennis where I had to enroll for a specific schedule. So I have 5x tennis per week, as a base, and the other activities vary, I love water but I also like the gym's group activities.

Umpqua on 05/10/2011:
Your foods and exercise look great - I bet the measurements will tell the true story. Have a good one!

moogy on 05/10/2011:
I am sorry that you are not seeing any results for all your efforts. I am sure that you are weighing and measuring and doing all the things you need to to ensure that you are not undermining yourself and not realizing it. I have done that before and it was very frustrating. Hang in there and it is true that the clothes sometimes tell more of a story than the scale.:)

Had a pretty good day. Breakfast- egg, 1/2 eng muff with yucky low fat spread ( I love butter!) lunch - out- a buffett -had some salad & bits & pieces of food with the salad taking up the majority of my plate. Then a few bites of 3 desserts  a piece of watermelon. Dinner- spinach salad with shrimp & strawberries.snack- hand ful of almonds- hard to total up the day- my estimate is 1500 calories.- Well , I may have another snack to I'll move it to 1600.

Exercise- 20 ellipt, 12 min on bike in the morning & 40 min walk in the evening. Happy about the walk- I found a place that's new to me- an excellent place to walk along the river with nice plantings, people walking dogs, nice.

Now that I have a new scale & am calculating kgs to lbs accurately I'm hoping to see some success on the scale this next week.
