Hi- Weekend was great- well great because it was a nice family get together but food wise- not so much. It's okay because I'm back on track today. Good to know that I can have a glass of wine, some snacks that i otherwise wouldn't eat & a piece of pie & then go back to what I should be eating. today- B- fruit smoothie, L- my usual big salad D- another salad with ckicken Snacks- peach, apple, p/ b, grapes & almonds

Exercise- long walk, 9 holes of golf, riding

That is true because you cannot always be on track but as long as you go back its all good. I see that as a maintenance plan that works well at least for me. Very good.

Happy Saturday!

Friday was a decent day. Breakfast & lunch a repeat of last days. Went to a Barbeque place for dinner and had pulled pork with green beans & collards for sides. Not bad choices but next time will choose turkey. After everyone had ice cream- just a few spoonfuls from my husband's dish for me.

Exercise- Back to the gym for a abs & weights class. Followed by housework.

Some challenges this weekend- Out for lunch today, out for dinner tonight, a family cook out tomorrow. Somehow this time I'm not worried. I plan to have a small portion of blueberry pie that I'll be making later today.

Collard Greens are one of my faves! I've actually cooked them myself time to time! Perhaps i'll do my own cooking today...I miss it now...but just very busy and i always am opting for convenience! lol.

Sticking with the mostly Paleo diet plan. Today I was a bit more hungry & not sure why.

B- almond milk smoothie with strawberries, L- salad with chicken & o & v ; D- chicken, squash, pappers, tomatoes Snacks- almonds, apple w/ almond butter, yogurtw/ strawberries, grapes , glass of wine

Exercise- golf

Anyone have an opinion on protein powder? I'd like to put some in my smoothie. I've used it before but bought it in a small package. Whenever i look at protein powder in the stores it seems overwhelming- large containers & different types- whey, rice. Or maybe I should just skip it.

I've tried whey, rice, soy and hemp protein powder in different flavors. I like whey best, and I always opt for chocolate. I've been using Designer Whey (I get it at Target) since it doesn't have artificial sweeteners like a lot of them do - I think it contains stevia. In the past I've used Jillian Michaels' brand for the same reason. I use it in my smoothies and I've also made protein bars with it. You're doing great!

I don't really use protein powders often but I like whey protein and I usually just see what looks interesting and hope it's not too chalky - I buy a small pouch because I don't use often. Regarding the bears in your yard! I would freak - I love the western US states-Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, love to hike there, but I almost cannot relax for fear of bears!

Another good day- Nice to have a string of good days.

B- egg w/ spinach; L- big salad w/ turkey & o & v; D- chicken & roasted cauliflower Snacks- almonds, peach , apple ( a delicious "summer apple" from the farmer's market, starts with the name Red, but can't remember the second part of the name )

Exercise- 45 min walk, 1 1/2 hours of gardening

Interesting that some of the Paleo diets allow dairy in moderation & some put it on the list of foods to avoid. I think I'm going to include some greek yogurt.

I found Greek Yogurt is good for my skin. Lots of Great apples are coming in this time of year. My personal favorite is Winesap. Have a good day TP.

You're doing great and being very consistent! I can't wait to get caught up on gardening - no recent bear sightings, but our yellow jackets have returned (after hubby sprayed the nest) and I don't want to go anywhere near them. I think the next step is to torch em!

They are vicious! I think you can spray the nest at night but have to find their second hole so they can't get out. They are persistent !

Up early, story of my life. Ok when I was working but not necessary since I retired seven years ago.

I do enjoy watching the sun rise & hearing the birds sing- right now hear a mourning dove and a light breeze as I sit on my porch. Speaking of nature- yesterday had a mother bear & her 2 cubs in my yard. The mother bear climbed a tree & out on a limb to get a hummingbird feeder down for a tasty treat. We see bears on our property almost every year. We're not putting the hummingbird feeder back up so they will probably bypass our property now.

Yesterday- not sure if it's a good thing or not- but for the second day wasn't hungry for breakfast so skipped it. L- salad with grilled chicken, balsamic dressing, D- beef tenderloin, vegetables on the grill, summer squash, Snacks- almonds, apple, almond butter, wedge of chocolate, grapes No wine!

Exercise- gardening, short walk

Saw the scale move down a bit.

Still doing some reading on the Paleo diet. There are various versions of it . The last book calls for 33 % protein; 25 % carbs; 42 % fat . Of that there are guidelines about lean protein and certain fats to avoid. My diet doesn't follow those proportions. The reason this appeals to me is that it does seem healthy- I'm eating fruits & vegetables & lean protein & avoiding sugar & flour - both of which are trigger foods for me. I'm not hungry, no cravings & I'm eating foods that I enjoy. So sticking with it for now.

Those like like much more reasonable ratios than the very low carb diets (I have at times done 30/5/65 - yikes!) I hope the family of bears decides to move on, as cute as they may be ;)

Yesterday was a weird eating day, but ended up okay. About 1400 calories . Didn't have wine but had a beer after golf. Tasted very good . Today will eat healthy, cut back on almonds & skip the wine.

Busy with grandchildren yesterday & will be today. Hoping it doesn't rain & I can talk them into going mini golfing. :) School starts for them tomorrow.

Maybe I'm missing something but this Paleo diet just looks like low carb, no bread, rice, pasta, sugar. Keep carbs low, but not super low, eat protein & healthy fats. Nothing new here , just given a new name by folks that don't appear to have medical degrees. I'll keep reading to see if there is something new .

That was my impression of the Paleo diet too, I'm pretty familiar with Atkins and it sounds similar but without the extreme low carb "induction" phase. You'll find out what you need to tweak to get the scale moving and you're doing great overall!

Yup, that's what I thought too! But i, personally, can't really tell the difference between Banting, paleo, Atkins - they all sound like they're on the same track haha

I've found the perfect diet for maintenance. But no weight loss in the last 4-5 days. I guess I have to make adjustments & I guess the biggest adjustment is to drop the evening wine. Funny because I was just reading someone's blog about denial . For me it is denial that I can have a glass of wine & still lose weight. Wish it were the case, but I believe it's not the case for me. Will follow the modified paleo plan, try to keep carbs under or just around 100 & see how the week goes.

Today- skipping breakfast because I'm not hungry- may have something later. Lunch- planning a big salad, Dinner- Still in planning stage

Exercise- some gardening, 9 holes of golf, walking this time, not riding.

Good Morning,

Yesterday was busy & a mostly good eating day..

B- egg w/ spinach, L- green salad w/ avocado & o &v . D- at a restaurant- salad w apple, walnuts, dried cranberries, 0 & v with 1 1/2 large meatballs, glass of wine Snacks- almonds, peach .Around 1300 calories. When I said mostly good eating I was just referring to the meatball assuming there was some bread in the filling. It tasted good, mainly because I've been eating chicken & fish for the last week.

Exercise- 45 min walk , 9 holes of golf, riding Also it was a museum guiding day so on my feet walking around the museum for 3 hours- that must count for something!

Today- No plans except for church, delivering flowers to homebound folks, dinner at my daughter's MIght be a rest day. Will try to stick to my sort of paleo diet plan. Ordered a book on the Paleo plan & should arrive today. Interested in reading more about it.

Food- about 1200 calories, carbs a bit higher than usual. Menu pretty much the same as the last few days.

Exercise- Didn't get to it today. Have to get a walk in tomorrow.

Had to give up my golf game today for a meeting that was scheduled. So went to the gym in the afternoon. Second day in a row for the gym. I remembered how boring the treadmill is. somehow the bike I can take for 20 min . Anyway 25 min on the treadmill, 20 on the bike & then a few minutes rowing & then some repetiions on a few machines.

B- fruit smoothie w almond milk, L- big salad w/ turkey D- plan to have salmon & a couple of vegetables Snacks- melon, almonds, celery w/ hummus, probably will have a glass of wine

Today my husband had a friend for lunch & as I went by the open bag of chips my hand wanted to grab a few chips but I resisted! Also stayed clear of the bakery cookies & put them in the freezer.

In the last 2 weeks- I lost a few lbs on the 3 day detox & now have lost 2 following my interpretation of the peleo diet. I have no compaints . Well , just one- I'm waking up too early- between 4 & 5 o'clock & then just exhausted by now- late afternoon. Not sure what the answer is for that but am willing to sacrifice lack of sleep for some weight loss.
