FRIDAY ~ August 14,2009

A week ago today, hubby found out @ his physical that his B.P. is VERY HIGH.... Began meds & now here WE go into reclaiming some "me/us" time to improve our health together.... Remembering that it is o.k. to say "no" to other people sometimes in order to take care of ourselves...I had been trying oh so hard this last week or two to muster up the courage to step foot down with myself #1 to exercise, plus the eating healthier..... This has left me no choice as my hubby's health is jeapordized if I don't take some reigns and help him stay on track by ME myself being on track... LIKE BEFORE!

Today has been a busy day, like the rest previous... Huh, here is the kicker, as you read above that I had told myself it is o.k. to say "no" to others... MY day, I set aside to finish a couple projects before Meg got home from camp and I had the house to myself I wound up @ the neighbor ladies house to help her vacuum, dust, mop,make up 3 beds AND cinch her up in a back brace (that was fun, if you think not...We had some good laughs! She is 68 yrs old, but gets around like much older..)... She was late for picking up a friend ( MALE ~LOL) from the airport & I finally got her out the door.... Anyway, prior to her leaving and I telling her I would lock up, I had asked her if I could bring the treadmill back to my house to give it a try again for when I can't get a walk in... She was off  & I got it loaded in the truck... Went ahead & mowed her lawn to save Ben from having to do it Saturday..He has been helping the church men install an in-ground sprinkler system the last couple days from 7 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and is soooooooo tired....Ended my day away from home by going to the grocery store a filthy mess to boot....Of course as always ran into someone whom I hadn't seen in a while & excused my appearance of grass, sweat, dirt & slightly sunburned cheeks....  Got home in time to eat supper before hubby & I took off for a 2 mile walk.... Don't faint...YES! I said we went for a WALK..... YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!!! The day turned out fine, even though my projects didn't get done... I got in a lot of exercise & enjoyed myself no matter.

Today I have had Toast, Scrambled Egg,Coffee, Coke (all that was available @ neighbors & I was sick of water), Banana, Apple, BBQ (no sauce) Steak, Dinner Salad & finishing off with a Mini Bag of Popcorn as I watch a movie... Water has been plentiful..... 

TOMORROW is the STAY HOME almost all day.. We will probably go to my parent's house in the evening.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Thinnie has been so busy and not on the computer for a while... Getting Ben ready for youth camp, fundraisers, yard sale preparation, so on and so forth...... Yesterday was a whole day in town after taking Ben to his ride to Oregon..Meg & I shopped for her junior camp next week & hit all the thrift stores for capris, etc.... I took her to lunch @ a burger joint and had a grilled chicken salad... This was the healthiest I had eaten in a few days.....With the buzziness of summer, I have not been tracking anything and just winging my days..... Doing pretty well overall though I think..... Not incorporating veggies & fruits like I should is the main trouble.

Last Monday the kids & I went out of town with my parent's for the day...It was dad's 73rd birthday.... Ate @ a buffet, but I did much better than I have in times past..Kept the servings small.....

Went to some friend's house Saturday evening for a BBQ birthday party... Made a huge peach cobbler & meatballs to take... Missed going to my parent's house as we had been having supper with them every Saturday night for a couple months now...I made them a meatloaf for supper to save dad at least one night of the week. Sent it home with them after a funeral we all attended Saturday morning.....At the birthday party, I made the mistake of thinking I was still a kid and showed Meg how to go down a steep set of stairs on her bum... I had an audience when I showed her & at the request of a friend, I went down again..He tried it, but got stuck and wanted me to do it a second time to see my trick to it...Not a wise thing to do with capri's on! I have major carpet burns on my calves... It has been sore to keep moving after I sit to take a rest..My legs & feet are swollen from all the hot weather, so that hasn't helped the tightness of the burns....

Keeping on track isn't as easy as it was in the very beginning.. Seems as though unhealthy food is surrounding me everytime I turn around with potlucks @ church on a very regular basis being the main starter of going off track.... Excuse!  By the time I get done cooking for everybody else & my family..I just don't feel like fixing myself something different and always tell "me" that I will eat the healthiest choices available... Getting back to wanting to reach goal that it aches is taking abit of time, but it is doable and I AM doing it.

Today has been a day of 8:00a.m.- 5:15 p.m. working outside...It has been in the 95-100 degree range for temps for several days, but I had to get to the yard work, as it was looking horrible out there.....Forcast today was 96-101, depending on where your at...  

We have several fires in the mountains above us..The sky is a greyish pink with purple & the sun is a reddish orange most days.. It has been near impossible to get any walking accomplished with the temps....

Decided I would make an entry after I got out of the shower & taking a rest..... Now, headed to get supper going. Cleaning off the porch & patio while supper is cooking is on agenda.....

Wondered where you had been. Hey - question for you - why do you have to fix something different for yourself? I didn't realize you did that. It is hard to find something healthy that suits everyone in a family. Usually what I do is just eat small portions or forego something I don't just love but it is hard to do sometimes now that you mention it. We just have to develop our own strategy, I suppose. Are you riding your bike anymore? I think it was you that was riding some last year or was it this spring? You sound really busy this summer just wanted to say - do something for yourself when you can......

I SO relate to the giving to others through cooking. I have to say I am a very good cook (and baker)and I LOVE when others brag on my food. It is a source of pride. I have to give that up some or just not eat my own food, I guess. My daughter and husband do't like the real rich food everyday, so it's not a big deal when I make just plain food - grilled fish and chicken, fresh vegetables, fruits. It's so great in the summer when we ahve so much locally grown stuff around here. I think we've eaten corn on the cob (or off) every night for the last 3 weeks (slight exaggeration)!

Hi Thinnie! I enjoyed reading your entry and finding out what's going on with your life!

I also must go back to my good old days when I had plenty of enthusiam to eat right and reasonably controled. I guess summer vacations are not the right time to do that, when we have all our meals in restaurants and we get to order the item that sounds most appetizing. In my case, I couldn't resist seafood pasta and eggplant milanese...

I heard about the heat wave that took over the State of WA! Glad to hear the temperatures lowered a little (in Spokane it's cooler, I hear)

I hope you can go back to your long walks again, soon. I'll be doing the same. Have a great day!

Hubby is home today.... Ben & I missed going to Costco yesterday, so we are headed there here in a bit before the weather gets too hot.... Suppose to be 100-105 for the next few days......Was woke @ 5:00 a.m. by the sound of Ben mowing the yard, then I fell back asleep when they headed to the neighbor's @ 7:00.... Meg & I slept til 10:00.....

Yesterday was another good day... I stopped @ a Deli about 3:00 p.m. to eat a Turkey Breast Sandwich on Whole Wheat with mustard,lettuce,tomato & 1 slice of Swiss....Ben wished he would of waited and not ate McDonalds when he saw my sandwich... Hubby picked him up on the way home from work & I had a bit of free time to shop before going to music practice, so didn't eat a p.m. snack & had a late supper of Lean Pork Loin with a salad & then a few Cherries.... We will go picking more cherries before the weekend is over...The market was so saturated with cherries this year that several orchardists didn't pick to sell...The warehouses were so picky about size & rejected perfectly good fruit.... Talk about wasting!!!!! Anyways, we live about 1/2 mile from a HUGE orchard of bings that are firm, yummy & almost black... Free for the picking.... Long season, but almost over...

Turkey Wrap (WW Tortilla,Turkey Breast,Tomato,White Cheese ~ Took most of the cheese off..No Mayo,mustard,etc.)

Wound up taking the kids up the their great-uncle & aunts after we went to Costco & a couple thrift stores...Hubby had already arranged to go up there to look @ some maps for wood-cutting prior to knowing we would all be able to go to town together....Spent most of the afternoon/evening visiting while the kids swam.... Put my feet in the 85 degree water and wished we had a pool for our family. I would be in that water every day I could (probably after dark to save the neighbors eye glare ).... Maybe someday when I'm rich... Ha! Got home late for supper, but didn't stop to get fast food as normally would be the case on a day like today...

Hot Cereal,Skim,Lil Brown Sugar,7 Grain/Flax Toast

More veggies will get eaten tomorrow....

Yummmmmmmmm....hope you get lots of cherries!! I grew up next to an orchard..cherries, plums, blackberries...we would sneak over and pick til our hearts content during the summers..lol...

Cudos for skipping McDonalds and getting yourself a healthy sandwich! I am so jealous of the free cherries! They are my fruit weakness - In the past, I have over ate them to the point of making my self ill........ so I guess it's a good thing I can't go pick them myself! :c)

Honestly, I messed up.......... Last Thursday when I posted my weight @ 212, I hadn't stepped on the scales for a couple weeks and for whatever reason(s), it doesn't matter...What matters is when I peeked on Monday of this week it said "217".. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have changed my bar to starting weight of 217 and brought 'er down a couple spots as of today @ the 1 week marker.... I can feel just those couple pounds being gone....Whew.... Much better... Can't wait to get to feeling even better as more comes off again....By the time it has all been said and done this last few months....I have gained 1/2 of what I had went down by, but NOT giving up the challenge of being an inspiration again when I keep trucking along, as I am inspired myself by others.....THANK YOU!

Going to town here in a bit...Ben & I are on our own the whole afternoon...Meg is going swimming with a friend.. I'm sure Ben will have something for "us" to do while we are in town.....I have grocery shopping to do!

You can do it - look at those tires and get them on your bike! I used to ride a lot back in the day, but have taken it up again the last three years in the summer. Summer before last I rode mountain bike on the rough trails, but riding on the street now - in safe neighborhoods with not too much traffic. I didn't hardly ride at all last summer due to the house construction we were going through and the business that cuased. This year when I first got on a 3-4 mile ride made me shaky when I stopped, but each time I've gone out I have gone further and further. It's kind of neat because I can see my stamina increasing now. Best advice - just ride a little bit and add to it (by just a tiny bit more) every 2-3 rides. It's pretty cool because I can ride about 1/2 the total distance I think I can do and then turn around and head back. Have fun! P.S. I'm starting again, too. I have been doing very well for 3 weeks, but clothes still tight. I know it will change, though, if I keep it up!

Ok sista my chart may say 202 but i am not there at this point. As I hit my 2lb goal each week it will not change until I am there. We are 2 peas in a pod and i say lets blow this joint. :-) We will succeed!

Beside kitchen work, I will be doing laundry & tidying up other areas...Just keeping busy indoors as the weather reaches 100+ today.... Prayer meeting tonight & hopefully a walk late evening with the family..

Tuesday holds plenty to do at home & taking the kids to eye appointments @ 3:00 p.m... Getting all the things on the summer to-do list done as far as the kid's Dr.appts, etc.  Before the summer is gone... They both are going to summer camp this year for the first time... Unfotunately they aren't gone the same week... Oh well...

Feeling in a zone with the getting back to how I should be traveling this journey to goal..Things are becoming natural again and not having to work so hard at staying on track.. Getting the sugars, fats, carbs, etc to a point of not craving the same....Feels good to be on "automatic mode" when it comes to decision making with food & exercise. No different than being the same with eating the poor choices. HABITS form easily, just have to put more work into the ones that matter most in "downsizing". Hup 2-3-4, Hup 2-3-4, Hup 2-3-4.... Marching on!

Glad you had good news on the CT. You still might want to look at the wikipedia article on post-concussion syndrome--though it sounds like you already know alot about it. All I remember is the board hitting you rang your bell pretty well and despite the CT result, your dr s/b aware of how it's affecting you so long after.

Oh well, hang in there and take good care of yourself!

Day has been a lazy one so far....Very hot/dry weather is in the forecast all week..Whew..... Received a phone call earlier with CT scan results that I have a head/brain without any abnormalities ..... Suppose to log the headaches/anxiety,duration & maybe what triggered it/them for a while....

Plan for today is to get some deep cleaning done & stay on track as I have been so far....

Made it through yesterday's goal of eating healthy...Exercise was helping organize,sort, clean my mother's closet in the 95+ degree temps (they don't have a/c) and fixing supper.... I did not eat fried chicken,mashed potatoes or cornbread. Stuck with my chix salad like a good girl... WhooHooo!!!!!!

Church service this morning,came back home to get swimming stuff, took Ben to a swimming party/picnic for the youth group that helped with VBS,washed & vaccumed the car,came home to eat dinner & now getting ready to go get Ben for music practice...BUSY DAY!!!!!!! It is just shy of being 100 degrees...WE have A/C & I wanna Sunday siesta!!!!!!!  No such thing today, so best be getting the skirt back on and scooting my way out the door.... I plan to take a late evening walk with hubby & work on the yoga ball....

lol, a sunday siesta! hehe. have a good day. i am so happy you have posted your weight, whatever it is right now, and that you are goal oriented.

just one thing, i read how you "didn't eat that or this - the cornbread, etc." at dinner - remember it's not about denying yourself. if you truly want something, eat lots of veggies and some protein, and YES, GIVE YOURSELF A SERVING OF WHATEVER YOU WANT TO TASTE. I like to just find that one item, not every item on the table, that i truly want. and i give myself a nice portion, nothing too flimsy. then, i enjoy it. that is what helped me on this trip, too.!

Made it through appointments just fine this morning....Will know results of my CT scan this evening or Monday...My mom's appointment yielded nothing more/less.... I talked 1/1 with the Dr. & he said he doubts that the new medicine will help with her rapid decline in memory, etc...But, it is worth a shot to try.... Her psychologist also has cut the med we questioned in half and may wean her off completely as the need originally prescribed for is no longer an issue......

I am sleepy and going to rest for 20 minutes before starting my exercise....It is BBQ family night @ Vacation Bible School for Meg tonight....I will be eating supper before we go and will take my own popcorn to save myself from the major salt & fat of the theatre style popped they will have..... Getting back to creativity & planning ahead is fun, not to mention so rewarding when I go to bed knowing I have done my best.....
